Yes.
One of the most insidious mental states to be in is the “recovering addict”— once you put that label on yourself and start counting the days of sobriety there is so much negative tension on the possibility of relapse it’s almost always going to happen.
Comes back worse.
Only real way is to be a completely different person.
You’re not recovering from anything: you used to be a person that drank a lot, now you’re not.
Not a big deal, even if you have a bit of wine one evening there’s no “streak” you’re ending. You don’t count the days anymore.
You’re not worried people around you are drinking. No stress. Won’t have one because it’s not really your thing.
Only get there when you’re utterly sick of it. Has to shape you into a completely different person.
Addictive drive must be put into something else.
This is only true for those who are overly nonchalant and stoic. If you never argue, fight, or allow yourself to be unreasonable, uncompromising, or unhinged then everyone will like you.
Nobody will hate you; but nobody will love you either.
You’re just there.
You will never evoke a woman’s scorn or insanity in breakups, you will have no real enemies, you will be the reliable furniture of your friendship group.
You’ll just vaguely exist in everyone’s periphery, until you don’t.
Such is the life of the docile man.
Physical attractiveness is largely how healthy you are.
An underappreciated corollary is that mental attractiveness is also largely just how healthy you are. Playfulness, joy, happiness, responsivity, non-reactivity, are basically just read outs of how well regulated your nervous system is.
In addition to being something that you can ACTIVELY do...
MANIFESTATION - is ALWAYS (at minimum) working passively in the background.
Even when you think you’re doing nothing.
Even when you believe you’re just “living your life.”
A part of you is arranging and re-arranging the pieces on the board. And it doesn't pause. Ever.
Take a look at your life:
- The people around you.
- The opportunities that appear.
- The conflicts that repeat.
- The strange patterns that seem to follow you from place to place, relationship to relationship.
None of that is random.
One of the primary functions of the subconscious mind is to organise and arrange... perception, behaviour, and decisions in a waymake the EXTERNAL WORLD match the INTERNAL PROGRAMMING.
They shape what you notice.
They influence what you tolerate.
They determine what you move toward and what you unconsciously sabotage.
You are constantly manifesting.
Not sometimes. CONSTANTLY.
Regardless of your level of awareness, you are passively MANIFESTING with every word, every thought, and every action.
So this being the case, you'd better learn to do it PROPERLY and ON PURPOSE.
You Need to Be More Intentional.
Stop Drifting Through an Accidental Life.
INTENTIONALLY DECIDE, CHOOSE, WHAT SPECIFICALLY YOU ARE BRINGING INTO YOUR LIFE.
Because whether you realise it or not
YOU ARE ALWAYS MANIFESTING.
Was recently explaining to one of my $16k coaching clients the numerous factors and aspects involved in storytelling at the master level…
And chiefly, ABOVE all else -
BEFORE you start telling anyone about anything…
The FIRST thing you need to do
Is ASSESS your audience & establish:
A - HOW MUCH CONTEXT do I need to add? Time period. Location (broad), location (specific), Characters. Their relationship to you. Their role in the given environment. Etc etc
B - HOW FAMILIAR ARE THEY with the subject at hand. How long have they been studying/practicing/working in/involved in the thing you’re talking about. What jargon needs to be explained. What concepts need to be elaborated on. How deeply do you need to link causes with their effects.
If you fail to take A into account?
You’ll lose their attention. The picture you paint will either be foggy (too little) OR painfully boring (too much).
If you fail to take B into account?
You will destroy all rapport with them. You’ll either be speaking at a level that goes way over their head (concepts not explained well enough) OR you’ll insult/offend them by assuming they’re a beginner (too many concepts explained) while giving a subtext of “I have not done any due diligence in understanding how much you already know, either BECAUSE I don’t care OR because I can’t see it. I’m either rude or ignorant.”
Here’s a magical line for B that will save your ass:
“As you know…”
As you know allows you to explain concepts to people that already know them for the sake of emphasising certain points in the story.
This works well to actually BUILD rapport because it says “I know you’re not dumb and respect your knowledge here.”
Trump does this very well, with a line of
“[Concept/Subject] … and you’d probably know that better than anyone, right?”
10/10 line.
Also very useful when talking to a mixed crowd, is:
“As most/some of you already know.. [explain concept at beginner level for the noobs in the room.]”
It is absolutely paramount. Before you tell a story, ask yourself and ASSESS YOUR AUDIENCE:
How much context do I need to lay down?
How deeply do I need to explain the concepts involved?
This is the FIRST aspect to master if you want to be an elite storyteller, public speaker, and persuader.
CONTEXT & CONCEPTS.
Namaste.
I can't express how lucky I was to have spent my formative years with an internet that was shaped by >110 IQ nerds instead of third world content farms struggling over 5$ of ad revenue
After years of insomnia, my ego wants to take ownership of the body after a few nights of awful sleep
Identification with and attachment to feeling the fatigued body amplifies the suffering of it
Because it is such an ingrained pattern (through years of insomnia and years of fear of the next morning), I often forget that I’ve identified with the body again until I snap back into the observer - and when I do the exhaustion no longer serves as my prison, but simply as an emanation of the body
Too many people make the mistake of conflating their occupation with their purpose. Your ‘purpose’ is to grow, develop, and evolve, as a soul through incarnational experiences to develop wisdom through navigating life and mastering energy.
Do not confuse THAT, with your JOB.
One of the most counterintuitive facts of life is that you gain energy by expending energy, inertia is a highly weighted variable in determining your mood, and something like depression is basically a cold start problem
Normalise calling people out on bullshit sayings.
For example:
“Nothing good comes easy”
Fuck you, says who? Nice self-curse bro LOL.
AFFIRM: everything good comes easy to me
For example:
“It’s only after you have lost everything you are free to do anything.”
What idiot came up with that one?
NEWSFLASH: You are a sovereign soul with will and imagination capable of directing your life in any direction of your choosing.
Please. Use yer brains.
Children who never experience confusion never develop the pattern-recognition to find clarity. The goal isn't zero suffering, it's calibrated suffering at the right doses so their system builds immunity instead of fragility
You need time and space to let the unconscious shoot its tendrils into your conscious mind
Most people spend their entire lives running from stillness - chasing some material accolade, endlessly working, looking for purpose, doomscrolling, burning their eyes with blue light
Only in the space where nothing is entering your vessel from the external world can you hear the voice of your own inner knowing
Your inner world is the only authority you need
Fatherhood strips the paint off every man alive, all that enduring self mythology you carved out for yourself over decades of living, that entire carefully manicured persona gone in six months because a child does not care who you think you are. a child cares what you do when you think no one is looking, and someone is always looking now. your son will learn what you are not from your words but from watching your face when his mother is talking, from how you sit when you're tired, from whether you get up anyway. and if what he finds there is weakness he will know it with the same dumb immediate certainty that an animal knows rain is coming
I don’t want to "download the app" to pay for parking. I don’t want to "create an account" to see a menu. I don’t want to "provide feedback" on a 30-second interaction. I just want to exist in the physical world without a digital leash.
Also someone said - high standards doesn't look like high standards to the person themselves, it looks like everyone else is incompetent/stupid. Look for that
