We Are Not Lazy. We Are Exhausted

They say
“this generation doesn’t want to work.”

As if our backs are not bent,
from carrying three versions of the same dream
just to be able to survive one month.

As if our phones are not offices.
As if night has not become a second shift.
As if sleep is not something that we borrow
in             instalments.

We wake up tired;
and we still show up.

We clock in while we’re thinking about the second job,
the side hustle,
the just one more thing
that might close the gap, between effort and dignity.

We are not lazy.
We are stretched thin;
across rent, school fees, transportation costs, data bundles,
family obligations,
dreams which we cannot afford to abandon,
and realities which we cannot escape.

We work full-time
and freelance at night.
We sell ideas, labour, skills, bodies, time.
We monetise hobbies,
turn passions into invoices,
and still come up short.

Side hustles are not ambition.
They are oxygen.
They are the difference between coping, and collapsing… quietly.

Burnout has become a lifestyle.
Exhaustion wears makeup now.
We call it grind.
We call it being serious.
We call it adulting.

But really…
it is survival dressed as productivity.

They taught us that if we work hard enough,
the world will meet us halfway.

But the world shifted the goalpost.
Raised the cost of living.
Lowered the value of labour.
And called it character building.

We were promised ladders.
We were handed treadmills.

We are tired of being told that effort always leads to reward,
when we have watched good people work themselves into illness,
and still be told
“try harder.”

We are tired of being judged by generations who bought homes, on one salary
and now they ask us why we are still renting;
with three degrees, and six income streams.

We are tired of explaining
Why rest feels like rebellion.
Why joy feels postponed.
Why dreams are scheduled, after bills.

We are not lazy.
We are doing too much, for too little
in a system that profits from our silence, and calls our suffering normal.

If we look tired… it is because we are.

If we look angry… it is because we are awake.

And if we are still standing…
it is not because the system works,
but because we refuse to disappear quietly inside of it.

We are not lazy.
We are exausted.
And still… we keep going…

🚨❌ At present, everything points towards an early termination of Claudio #Echeverri’s loan at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Talks with interested clubs are ongoing, with a decision possibly coming this weekend.

The 19 y/o is under contract at Manchester City until 2028. So far, he has made just 270 minutes of appearances for Leverkusen, registering one assist.
