🔥 *IS MICROSOFT COOKED? I Found The Open-Source Office Clone Everyone Is Talking About*
I saw that clip by Kirk Yuhnke asking "Is Microsoft cooked too?" with `https://t.co/3tpXmQgrok` open in his browser.
I went down the rabbit hole. Here's the real gist, not the hype.
It's called *The Crafting Apps Suite* by developer Brandon Thomas (the same guy behind free Adobe clones).
What he's building in Rust:
*Office Side:*
> 📄 WordCraft - Word alternative
> 📊 GridCraft - Excel alternative
> 📽️ DeckCraft - PowerPoint alternative
*Creative Side:*
> 🎨 PhotoCraft - Photoshop
> 🎬 FilmCraft - Premiere Pro
> ✒️ VectorCraft - Illustrator
> 📐 DesignCraft - InDesign
*Important awareness for my people:*
1. *It's AI-built.* He used Claude Code to build it. That's why people call it "vibecoded". It's legit code, but it's AI-assisted, not 10 years of manual coding.
2. *License is REAL open source.* MIT + Apache 2.0. Truly free, no cracked version, no subscription.
3. *It's still in Alpha.* The biggest issue right now is DOCX fidelity - it doesn't perfectly open complex Word files yet. The team says ∼85% to alpha. Do NOT use it for final year project or client invoices yet.
4. *Not affiliated with Microsoft.* This is clean-room, original assets only.
*My take as Kojo Your Trusted Cybersecurity Consultant and Intructor*
Microsoft is NOT cooked. They made $211B from Office for a reason. But this is a big signal.
For us in Nigeria - students, cyber labs, freelancers, Linux users - paying $99/year for M365 or $60/month for Adobe is hard. A free, offline, privacy-focused alternative where your files stay on your PC is huge.
Plus, it shows what AI coding can now do - cloning entire Office in weeks.
I've not tested it yet...but if you have let us know.
*Link:* https://t.co/gri1qyrgR7 - go star it, but test it in VM first (you know security first).
*Question:* Would you trust an AI-built, open-source Office for your daily work if it saves you 150k Naira/year?

How the Fuel Rebate Scam works:
1️⃣ You get a broadcast message: "Apply for Federal Government N10,000 NNPC Fuel Subsidy Discount Card."
2️⃣ The link takes you to a fake, mirrored portal asking for your NIN, phone number, and bank account.
3️⃣ It forces you to share the link with 5 WhatsApp groups to "verify your claim."
Following the FG’s announcement of a 30-day NNPC fuel discount, watch out for the scam links hitting WhatsApp groups today ⛽⚠️
Scammers are actively circulating fake "NNPC Subsidy Voucher" portals to harvest personal details. Read before clicking 🧵👇
How to protect yourself:
• No Web Portals: The 30-day discount is applied directly at participating stations/transporters—there is NO online registration form.
• Check the Domain: Sites ending in .xyz, .free-bonus.com, or .blog are phishing harvesters.
• Never Share OTPs: No legitimate government program asks for your bank PIN or OTP.
