Ironically, this heated "Olodo Uprising" conversation is actually a good sign for Nigeria.

Nigeria is finally having its first endogenous, organically-defined culture war over an issue that is intrinsically important to Nigerian society.

Every other culture war that post-colonial Nigeria has fought until now has been imported Yankee slop, or imported religious slop, or both (LGBTQ, 3rd wave Feminism, "sexual liberation", tithing, NYSC hijab, etc).

A society fighting internal culture wars over its own self-defined issues is a society that is finally obtaining an identity of its own. You can keep on repeating to yourself, "The algorithms only show you more of what you like, so the problem is with us not with the social media platforms" as much as you like.

It won't make it true.

The algorithms are NOT neutral. You're just too delusional to accept the reality that rich, powerful people who pay billions for publicity and advertisement will never look at a technology like social media and leave it alone to be "neutral".

I had this same premise during the Peller X YCee saga.
The fact that YCee attacked what Peller represented and how he portrayed education to the public, and the Peller person and his minions kept hammering on how much money he had and his philanthropy: was that the subject?
Others hammered on how he needed intellect to make money, again, not the point: the point is what his content portrayed.
We have exchanged our values for money, everything is a means to a fiduciary end.
