@CUComm3200 In my opinion, Timberg's assessment of monoculture's focus on the internet was too shallow. Childish Gambino's "This is America" is just one example of how many mainstream figures are using the internet as a place to challenge norms in our society.
@CUComm3200 Because of the high pressure to present the most qualified self on their Instagram, the trend of a “finsta” has risen in order to capture more the mundane, everyday things that social media was used for historically.
@CUComm3200 I appreciated Livingstone's critical response to the grim presentation of iGen by Twenge. The advent of the smartphone has also changed the behavior of older generations, and so I find it hard to believe that this is not also to blame for iGen's concerning decline.
@2450fall18 Gossip spreads rapidly and is false more often than not. This is an #ex of a human interaction independent of technology that behaves similar to #falsenews, where it diffuses farther, faster, deeper and more broadly than the truth
@2450fall18 If I were to tweet "Willard Straight Hall is burning down", that would be considered #news, but would not become a #rumor until it was socially engaged with by others #ex
@2450fall18 would you say that the new groups formed and enabled by #socialmedianetworks are more artificial than the original 1 or 2 groups people used to form? #reflection
@2450fall18#ex Due to #contextcollapse on Facebook, I have to make sure I do not tag my friends in memes that might reveal some of the shenanigans I engage in at school, which my relatives might not approve of #selfcensorship
@2450fall18#ex#socialfacilitation effect: when at a dinner or in the presence of other people, I make sure to "sit like a lady" and cross my legs, but when I'm alone or with close friends I am able to sit however I'd like to
@2450fall18#ex: my #idealself would be if I went to the gym every day, my #oughtself would go to the gym at least once a week, but my #actualself only goes to the gym on rare occasions.
