@MATERREAPER Another beat, heavier this time.
“But if you need to rip into me… if you need to burn it all down to the ground in front of me… I’ll stand here and take it. I owe you that much, at least.”
@MATERREAPER Then, quieter—
“But don’t kid yourself, Mylah.
I remember exactly how it ended and no matter how far you ran, or how many years passed… you weren’t the only one haunted by it.”
And with that, he turned and walked out.
@MATERREAPER “You were the one good thing I didn’t know how to treat right. And the second I realized it, I was too busy covering my own ass to do a damn thing about it.”
He stood slowly, pushing the chair back with a soft scrape.
“I’ll take the guest room.”

@MATERREAPER Another pause, this one heavier.
“I just didn’t expect to be this alive and I sure as hell didn’t expect to be sitting across from you again.”
His voice softened, barely.
“But here we are.”
He glanced down at the table. “So… what now, Doctor?”
@MATERREAPER “No, I don’t have anywhere to go. Not yet.”
A pause.
“But you and I both know disappearing isn’t the same as being gone.”
He shifted, wincing slightly as the motion tugged at a healing scar.
