A polar vortex will bring extreme cold late this week, Wind chills will drop into the -30s, with possible -40s across northern Ontario.
Ottawa could drop to -21°C, its coldest day in 10 years.
A lot of this shit seems really fucked up, but when I think about it, maybe it's the logical conclusion of what social media is.
Right now, with our current understanding of social media, we are already crafting and projecting a kind of identity.
When twitter first started there were established overton windows in how people expressed themselves, and that overton window expanded over time.
For example, with Twitter early on, it was common to always use a pfp of yourself, especially if your content had any kind of professional connection, and then over time that changed into many different kinds of expressions. It def wasn't like everyone had a fucking anime pfp or something.
I think a lot of people's first reaction to this AI avatar stuff taking hold will be something like, "this is lame as hell" or "this is for mfers who don't love themselves or wish they were someone else", but I think the idea of interacting with and using your own AI avatar might become very normalized as things continue on.
It’ll just be understood that in the digital world your visual representation does not have to be connected in any way to how you look in the real world, and I think this shift is going to reveal the underlying truth of social media, which is that, in a lot of ways all of this shit is made up, and always has been, and that’s the point of it.
