Pop over to LinkedIn to hear my colleague Izzi Monk explain why the @ISBAHQ should not rush into granting deep seabed exploitation rights, why we need a moratorium now on #DSM. https://t.co/RatldK50Hi
We also urge the negotiating committee to ensure that there is sufficient opportunity for evidence from across the breadth of scientific disciplines, sectors and stakeholders to inform the treaty’s obligations as they are being hashed out.
In our statement, we highlight that the decision-making about the treaty’s binding obligations and how to implement them needs to be underpinned by robust and accessible evidence that focuses on solutions.
We also need to ensure that recycling at scale is safe for humans and the environment and doesn’t create perverse incentives and more environmental harm than virgin plastic production.
It's a sunny, summery morning and I just had my first croissant. I’m in Paris this week for the international plastics treaty negotiations, representing @RoySocChem. This is the second time the negotiation committee meets to discuss how to deal with #plasticpollution.
We should direct our effort towards reducing plastic consumption and reusing and - repairing plastic products before eventual recycling or end-of-life treatment. We should also curb the use of unnecessary and potentially harmful plastics and hazardous chemicals in plastics.
It's really crucial that at every stage of the negotiations evidence from all relevant sectors and disciplines is taken into consideration. This treaty needs to be underpinned by scientific, techno-economic and societal perspectives.
This is the best example I've seen of academic researchers working hand-in-glove with national public health agencies to tackle a new threat. Because we had the ISARIC4C (https://t.co/vUIGnGDqjs) study infrastructure in place before the outbreak...
Today is #WorldWaterDay. We need clean water & healthy oceans for our well-being and that of our planet. Chemistry helps us unpick the problems & prevent pollution – but we also need policy to support a #circulareconomy in which we consume fewer resources & create less waste.
And if you've ever wondered how the TV version of #TheLastOfUs compares to the PS5 version, here's a very neat 3-hour edit of the game's key scenes by @Game_Intros. https://t.co/UUntKVPKhe
