Armenia’s opposition forces have rejected the Constitutional Court’s decision dismissing petitions challenging the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections, arguing that the ruling neither resolves the legitimacy of the newly formed government nor addresses what they describe as widespread election violations.

The joint statement was signed by the “Strong Armenia” Alliance, the “Armenia” Alliance, the Prosperous Armenia Party, the Armenian National Congress, and the National Democratic Alliance Party.

According to the statement, the Constitutional Court’s ruling “does not resolve the question of the legitimacy of the emerging government,” with the opposition arguing that the authorities formed under the officially certified election results lack legitimacy.

The parties also accused the court of failing to address what they described as electoral fraud and widespread election violations, saying the decision does not resolve Armenia’s deep political and legal crisis.

Instead, they argued that the Constitutional Court’s refusal to recognize the alleged violations further deepens the country’s political crisis, undermines efforts to foster national unity, and shifts the struggle “into the sphere of political resistance.”

The five political forces announced that they have agreed to coordinate around four key priorities:

• Preventing constitutional amendments proposed by the current authorities, which they described as externally imposed changes that would undermine Armenia’s sovereignty.

• Defending the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the Catholicos of All Armenians, and the Church’s constitutionally protected rights, property, and mission against what they described as a systematic campaign by the authorities.

• Protecting political prisoners and demanding their immediate release, alleging that a new wave of political repression has followed the parliamentary elections.

• Removing the current government, which they said is the only way to restore constitutional order, national unity, and Armenia’s security.

The opposition also argued that, with the country’s legal institutions having been undermined, “the only remaining guarantor of the state and constitutional order is the citizen of the Republic of Armenia.”

Calling on the public to remain engaged, the parties said the Constitutional Court’s decision “is not the end of the struggle, but the beginning of a new, more systematic, institutional, and broad-based phase of political resistance.”

The opposition added that discussions on coordinated action are continuing and said further announcements regarding joint initiatives and future steps will be made in the near future.

Russia has recalled its ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopyrkin, to Moscow for consultations, citing what it described as the Armenian leadership’s steps toward closer integration with the European Union.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the move is linked to policies by Pashinyan’s government that Moscow says are undermining cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
