【ヘタウマ？味のあるワンコ🐶】
じゃれ合う姿がなんともかわいらしい（？）作品です。

手前の犬は、何かを訴えるような表情でこちらを見ているようにも見えますが……。
実はこの作品、よく見ると3匹の犬が描かれているそうです（おしりだけ出している1匹がいます）。

素朴でありながら味わい深いで、なんともクセになる一作です。

今日は夜間特別開館なので、19時30分まで開館しております。

[Amateurish but Charming? A Dog with Character 🐶]
This piece captures the dogs playfully wrestling with each other in a way that’s undeniably cute (?).

The dog in the foreground seems to be looking at us with an expression as if pleading for something…
Actually, if you look closely, this piece apparently depicts three dogs (one of them is only showing its rear end).

It’s a work that’s simple yet full of character—and utterly addictive.

If you take a closer look at this piece, you’ll see that the hair and patterns on the kimono are rendered through subtle variations in texture!

This delicate rendering is made possible by the unique techniques of Yaki-e.
Rich textures are created through variations in the degree of burning and the thickness of the lines.

【学芸員が作品解説！🐯】
担当学芸員のYです。

今回ご紹介するのは大変珍しい中国の焼絵です。
火画（ひが）や香画（こうが）などと言われますが、特に昔の作品については詳しいことが分かりません。
今回、日本国内にある中国焼絵作品を調べても、確認できたのはわずか6点のみ。本展ではそのうち5点をご覧いただけます。
その中でも注目したいのが、范子振（はんししん、生没年未詳）の《書破琴詩後》と《酔筆図》です。3点の作品がひとつの巻物になっており、そのうち2点が、18～19世紀に台湾で活躍したとみられる范子振によるものです。
《書破琴詩後》は、北宋時代の文人・蘇軾（そしょく、1037～1101）の漢詩を焼絵で表現した作品。《酔筆図》は「酔」「筆」「酒」の文字が見え、酒壷と人物が描かれていることから、酒に酔った絵師を表した作品と考えられます。
さらに興味深いのは、どちらの作品も焦げの下から墨線が見えること！
これらの作品は、墨で下書きをした上から焼いているのです！ここまで下書きがはっきりと見える焼絵作品は多くありません。
また、《酔筆図》には「鏞尖（ようせん）」という文字もあり、火箸のような先端の尖った金属器具で表現したことが推測できます。
こちらの作品も、細部まで見ていただける展示となっていますので、ぜひ会場でご確認ください。

[Curator’s Commentary! 🐯]
I’m Y, the curator in charge.

Today, I’d like to introduce a very rare example of Chinese pyrography.
Although these works are known as “fire paintings” or “incense paintings,” little is known about them, especially the older pieces.
In fact, even after researching Chinese burnt-paper artworks in Japan, we were able to confirm only six existing pieces. This exhibition features five of them.
Among these, the works that deserve special attention are Fan Zizhen’s (dates unknown) *After Writing a Poem on the Qin* and *Drunken Brushwork*. These three works are combined into a single scroll, and two of them are by Fan Zizhen, who is believed to have been active in Taiwan during the 18th and 19th centuries.
*After Writing a Poem on the Broken Zither* is a pyrography piece depicting a Chinese poem by Su Shi (1037–1101), a literati of the Northern Song Dynasty. In *Drunken Brush*, the characters for “drunk,” “brush,” and “wine” are visible, and since it depicts a wine jar and a figure, it is believed to represent a painter intoxicated by alcohol.
What is even more fascinating is that in both works, ink lines are visible beneath the charred surface!
These works were created by burning over a preliminary sketch drawn in ink! There are not many pyrography works where the underdrawing is this clearly visible.
Additionally, the “Drunken Brush” features the character “Yōsen” (鏞尖), suggesting it was created using a metal tool with a pointed tip, similar to a fire tong.
This exhibition allows visitors to examine these works in great detail, so please be sure to check them out at the venue.

[Burning It Up 🔥]

“Pyrography:Brown Strange Things” is on display today!

“Yaki-e” is created almost entirely in shades of brown.
Yet, within those hues, a rich variety of tones and textures is expressed.
You’ll be amazed at just how delicate the details are! 🔍
And there are all sorts of cute animals, too! 🐶
