Planning on heading out today to see some wild horses. Thinking the Salt Wells and Adobe Town herds are my best chance. Thanks @Koshywrites! (better info than what BLM have me yesterday!)

how the members of the newly formed bipartisan House Public Lands Caucus voted on today's resolution to lift the 20-year ban on mining near the Boundary Waters...
11 Republicans: Yay
11 Democrats: Nay

Another cool WyoFile collab that ran this week, by
@Koshywrites and Mountain Journal... what happens when wolves leave Yellowstone? Nothing good, if you're the wolf.

BREAKING: Feds postpone Wyoming coal sale despite Trump's promises to "revitalize" the industry. Critics say even the coal industry isn't betting big on its future. - @WyoFile https://t.co/8B4vfqJ3BI
A full-throttled rollback of federal regulations on industrial emissions might not be uniformly welcome in Wyoming, particularly in Pinedale where residents struggled for years before convincing regulators and industry to address a health threat. @WyoFile https://t.co/4wnhGWaMh6
Uinta, Platte, Niobrara, Goshen and Sublette counties become "news deserts" as News Media Corp shutters eight local Wyoming newspapers with no notice. The oldest had been in print for 122 years. Thirty people lost jobs. https://t.co/qCab64WsOJ
Gov. Mark Gordon will deploy the Wyoming National Guard to support Trump's mass detention and deportation effort. He is one of a reported 20 Republican governors to do so.

1.5 yrs ago, Cody Roberts brought a wounded wolf into a bar & drew international disgust.
Leniency of the punishment—a $250 fine—stoked the outrage.
Now, a grand jury has convened that could indict him for felony animal cruelty.
The scoop for @WyoFile.

Humans can sure do a number (2) on alpine environments.
Here's a case in point:
Wyoming's Lonesome Lake, stunning and remote as it is, was more polluted with fecal bacteria that any of the other 981 lakes @EPA sampled for its National Lakes Assessment!

From 2014 to '24, the share of Wyoming residents who believe climate change is happening jumped from 55% to 86%.
“That’s a huge change in 10 years. There is worry and there is a desire for action.”

@DBleizeffer story for @WyoFile.

SCOOP: Huge news for western states. The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that Sen. Mike Lee’s proposal to allow the sale of millions of acres of federal land fails to comply with the Byrd Rule. Montana/Idaho GOP senators have said they oppose it as well.
I’m told this decision will be included in the batch of Byrd rulings slated to be released overnight tonight.
And here's a perhaps less surprising take from a Jackson Hole entrepreneur who puts U.S. @RepHageman on blast for supporting the sale of public lands that are integral to the lives of her constituents.

In Wyoming, ALL reaches of the political spectrum are lining up against @SenMikeLee's bid to sell off ~3M acres of the public's land.
Here's a take from extremely MAGA (Jan. 6 participant) oil and gas executive state representative Mike Schmid.

Love me a good longevity record story.
The latest: Wolf 840M breaks Wyoming's age record, nears the all-time species record, and does it while living on the fringe of subdivisions in Teton Valley, Idaho.
“Super savvy wolf,” @WGFD's Ken Mills said.

Drawn to Twitter today for obvious reasons and it reminded me I haven't posted in ages.
Here's a @WyoFile story about wildlife impacts at the planned Wyoming State Shooting Complex south of Cody.
It only exists because of tips, so thank you, tipsters

New: Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) tells me that he believes the provision mandating the sale of public lands in Nevada and Utah has been stripped out and will be reflected in the managers amendment.
Zinke had said this was a redline . Nevada GOP Rep Mark Amodei was pushing for it.
