@geococcyxcal Good morning from mama turkey and her freshly hatched brood! I loved how when mama was creeping across the road, the babies crept, too. When mama stood up, up went the babies.
@geococcyxcal Good morning! Last week the killdeer had four eggs in her nest. Now she has three and a piece of concrete. We’re trying to guess what critter would eat a single egg when there were four for the taking. Mama is not happy about us looking so we try to minimize our peeks.
@geococcyxcal Good morning! Mowing brought about 20 Swainson’s hawks to the farm this week, including this handsome guy. The local hawks had a fledgling two years ago with this same light chin, so maybe he was back to visit.
@geococcyxcal Good morning! We saw the male red-tailed hawk hunting alone this week. His mate disappeared this month. We have been watching this pair raise chicks for five years, but suddenly she is gone. It’s sad to see him all alone.
@geococcyxcal Good morning! Our resident woodpecker is loudly complaining the morning that the bird feeders are empty. Apparently he had not planned on actually pecking wood today.
@lalilalilali @geococcyxcal @momsskillet I love all this discussion! We see these guys very infrequently. They live right along the creek, and I have never seen them more than maybe a hundred yards from the water. But such a lovely creature.
@geococcyxcal Good morning! After many skirmishes, the tree swallows seized the Most Desirable Tree Hole in the World from the house sparrows who used it last year. Mama tree swallow building her nest, papa on sentry duty, and the defeated sparrow plotting revenge.
