Early Christians baffled the Roman world because their counter-cultural way of life, radical compassion, and refusal to conform to civic religion turned traditional Roman values upside down...
Christians worshipped only one God and refused to burn incense to Caesar or participate in state polytheistic rituals. Romans viewed this as a dangerous form of atheism and treason that could anger the gods and destabilize the empire. Roman society was deeply hierarchical and honor-driven, built on class, slavery, and status. Christians treated slaves, masters, the poor, and elites as spiritual equals before Christ. Romans routinely exposed unwanted or disabled infants to die of exposure. Christians actively combed public dumpsters and streets to rescue these babies and raise them as their own—an act so foreign to Romans that they falsely accused Christians of bizarre rituals like child sacrifice. While Roman culture prized honor, strength, and retribution against enemies, Christians practiced radical forgiveness and charity. They cared for widows, orphans, the poor, and even plague victims regardless of whether they were believers, prompting early writers like Tertullian to note observers saying, "See how they love one another!" Unlike other oppressed groups or zealots who fought the Roman legions with the sword, Christians refused violent revolution. When dragged before magistrates or executed in the arenas, many faced death with calm resolve or song rather than armed resistance, which baffled authorities who only understood power backed by military might.
. . .
Early Christians in Roman Empire showed a high level of devotion to their God that made their persecution backfire. On many occasions, the martyrs sang while awaiting execution in arenas. While Roman authorities at the time intended for public executions to serve as a warning to anyone who refused to honor traditional gods, the strategy did not work. Roman Emperor Nero started the trend in 64 CE after a great fire destroyed much of Rome. At the time, he needed people to blame for the disaster and chose the Christians as they were a small group of secretive people that lived on the fringes of society. The plan to scare the public away from the new faith failed as instead of fear, the lurid sights of their devotion to their faith even in the face of death, created curiosity among Roman citizens.
The public executions of Christians were meant to humiliate victims, their displays of courage when facing persecution were rare in a society built on power and self-interest. As a result, many Romans began to wonder what kind of god could give a person such strength. Tertullian, a famous writer from that era, notably wrote that the blood of martyrs acted as the seed of the church. Every time the state killed a believer, more people signed up to join the movement. While most people in the empire easily added the Roman Emperor to their list of gods in order to avoid trouble, the Christians refused to burn incense to the image of the ruler. Over time, the church became more organized and created a welfare system that the Roman government simply did not provide. When the Plague of Cyprian that emerged in 251 CE killed thousands of people, pagan priests and wealthy citizens fled to their country estates to avoid the sickness. Christians by contrast stayed in the cities to nurse the sick and bury the dead regardless of whether the victims were believers or not. This level of kindness earned them deep respect among the poor and middle classes. The actions also helped to earn the trust of the people.

On April 13, 1822, the Muslim Turk Abu Lubut captured Naousa at the head of 20,000 Greek Christian men and turned the city into hell. There, 13 young women preferred to throw themselves into the waterfall of the Arapitsa bridge rather than be dishonored by the Turks. All the male captives were slaughtered or hanged, and their women and children were enslaved.
A year ago, an imperial firman (dated May 3, 1821), stipulated that "the commandments of the Holy Sharia require that the infidels be put to the sword, their children and women be enslaved, their possessions distributed among the faithful victors of Islam, and their homes delivered to fire and ashes so that not even the crow of a rooster shall be heard in them again."
So, on the Greek island of Chios on March 30, 1822, the Ottoman fleet under the command of Kara Ali arrived on the island. With excessive zeal in executing the sultan's order "for the exemplification of the rebellious cities and islands," Kara Ali and Vahit ordered the indiscriminate and merciless extermination of all the Greek Orthodox population. Literally the whole island. Irregular Muslims arriving from the coasts of Asia Minor in every kind of vessel participated in this for plunder and revenge.
Infants up to 3 years old were killed, along with youths and men from 12 years and older, and women over 40. Pouqueville described the scene in dark colors: "The flames illuminate scenes of debauchery and barbarity unheard of in history. While women are dragged by their hair and violated amid the dead and the dying, drunken dervishes dance around piles of corpses [...] erecting pyramids of heads, atop which they plant their flags, forming heaps of ears destined to adorn the sterns of Ottoman ships."
Young girls were raped publicly in the streets, and newlyweds in front of their husbands, who were then slaughtered. Others were raped in front of their parents, after which the men's genitals were cut off. Women over 40 were set on fire and left to burn alive. Pregnant women had their bellies ripped open and their fetuses pulled out, while small children were thrown forcefully against rocks. The frenzy of the Muslims was unprecedented.
Many Turkish soldiers cut off the heads of Greek Christians and then licked their swords. With this act, they believed they would earn a place in paradise. Others were hanged from the island's trees for deterrence. Severed human limbs and corpses were scattered on the streets, while the sea had turned red from the blood. The smoke from the burning houses had covered all of Chios, while the flames made the night look like day. Several women from Chios preferred death over dishonor and slavery.
Immediately after the "assaults," the harsh fate of captivity followed. Girls from 3 years old, women up to 40 years old, and boys from 3 to 12 were captured and sold as slaves. Age, skin color, body type, features, as well as social status determined the price.
According to the statistics of the Turkish customs, up to May 25, 1822, transportation duties had been paid for 42.000 people. Approximately 8–9.000 Greek captives were transferred to Cairo, which, along with Constantinople, constituted the largest centers for receiving Greek slaves.
The descriptions by R. Walsh, the chaplain of the English embassy church in Constantinople, of the public sale of the women and girls from Chios in the slave markets are shocking. "The sales usually took place at the Avret Bazaar, the Women's Market. It was a square building with an open courtyard in the middle. Around it were platforms for exhibiting African female slaves. The white ones and women of greater value were in chambers with latticed windows. There the bargaining was done with some decency. But the Chiotisses (Greek women from Chios Island) were so many that they were sold in the squares and streets."
The sales stopped on June 19, 1822, following the intervention of the sultan's sister, to whom Chios belonged.
It is now known as "Chios Massacre" where 42.000 Christian Greeks were slaughtered, while 52.000 women and children were sold as slaves.
Post picture: This is a Greek slave captured by the Muslim Turks during the Ottoman period. The sign writes: "ΡΟΔΟΝ ΕΤΩΝ ΙΗ ΠΩΛΕΙΤΑΙ ΜΝΑΣ Ω" which means: "Rose, eighteen years old, for sale, for 800 mnas". A painting by José Jiménez Aranda.
José Jiménez Aranda, Delacroix and Hiram Powers all these artists created sculptures and paintings for these events. The barbaric enslavement of the Greek Christians from the Muslim Turks is one of the worst and most brutal things in entire history. Yet nobody knows or writes about those events.
Approximately 16.000–18.000 slaves were imported into the Ottoman empire each year during the first 70 years of the 19th century, while it is estimated that by the end of the century, 5% of the total population of the Ottoman Empire descended from slaves.

I was raised with Islamic-Turkic pride and with hate for Christians and Armenians.
My DNA analysis consistently shows that roughly 90% of my ancestry comes from pre-Islamic and pre-Turkic native Anatolian populations, most likely Armenians. The numbers are not different for most Turks today who are raised similarly.
It's messed up how populations have been brainwashed by Islam.

Greeks were occupied on their own land for 400 years, 2nd class citizens, paying the "jizya" tax to their Muslim overlords who frequently stole their children to force convert and turn into soldiers (janissary troops) or brides.
This only ended when the Greeks fought like hell to expel them starting in 1821. This should be the first thing they teach in school these days, it even deals with indigenous people fighting off an occupying force.
So why isn't this one of the models?

In 1822, Muslim Turks captured two Greek Christian women in Naousa and attempted to force them to convert to Islam. They smeared them with honey on the head and tied them exposed, so as to receive the stings of wasps and of passersby.
The first woman, wife of Captain Zafeirakis, was then built into the wall up to the neck in the church of Hagia Sophia in Thessaloniki. She was left there for days for the entertainment of the wild mob that went there cursing and hitting her head with sticks as it protruded from the wall. She did not back down for a moment, strengthened until her last breath by prayer, and she never abandoned her Christian faith. Her martyrdom lasted five days. A passing gypsy woman, to hasten her end, threw a large stone at her, and thus the blessed one delivered her heroic soul into the hands of God, Whom she did not deny.
The other woman, Maria Karatasou, wife of Captain Karatasos, refused to change her faith, and for this Muhammad Pasha Abu Nabbut enclosed her in a sack with deadly snakes, where she was martyred.
The historian Eustathios Stougiannakis writes:
"The acute venom diffused into the veins of the martyr from the bites, however, killed her in sweet lethargy, praying until the last moment for her executioners and invoking the Most High and the Virgin."
And Pouqueville describes in the darkest colors to the civilized world the dramatic scenes he saw with his own eyes there:
"Many women naked were put up to the neck in sacks with cats, snakes, and mice"
The lifeless bodies of these holy women were eventually thrown into the sea.
These events took place during the Naousa massacre.
