Es “hasta el final” no “hasta el 10 de Enero”

Hace poco vi un video de Óscar Pérez pidiendo a los venezolanos que salieran a las calles y paralizaran todo el país, pero el país lo dejó solo.

No creo que los venezolanos sean cobardes. Durante 26 años mucho se ha hecho, pero la realidad, no se ha hecho lo suficiente.

Imposible decir que los venezolanos son cobardes, porque Franklin Brito no lo fue. Decir que son cobardes es insultar a Óscar Pérez, a Bassil da Costa, a Génesis Carmona y a todos los que la dictadura ha asesinado. Llamar cobardes a los venezolanos es insultar a los miles que han estado presos por protestar (y a los que hoy siguen presos).

Una parte importante de venezolanos cometieron el error de votar a Chávez en 1998, luego votar su Constitución en 1999, luego reelegirlo en el 2000, en el 2006 (con el 62% de los votos), luego aprobar su enmienda constitucional en el 2009 que permitió la reelección presidencial y luego votar por él en el 2012.
Los errores se pagan caro.

Y a mi no me vengan con ese cuento de que Chávez hacía fraude. Eso es mentira. Buena parte de Venezuela fue chavista y le patrocinó todo, por ejemplo, que cerrara a RCTV, que expropiara, que censurara, que encarcelara, que matara a Franklin Brito, que juzgara sin razón a la jueza Afiuni, que cerrara el Congreso, que se adueñara de la justicia, que se apoderara del parlamento y de muchas cosas más. ¿Dónde estuvimos nosotros mientras Franklin Brito hacia huelga de hambre para que le devolvieran sus tierras?

Insisto, decirle cobardes a los venezolanos es insultar a Brito. Él tuvo cojones para pelear por lo que es suyo.

Sin embargo, otros venezolanos fueron los que metieron a todo el país en este problema, incluidos a los que nunca votamos por el chavismo, que fuimos millones.

Ahora el país está atrapado en un callejón sin salida, con una dictadura militar que amenaza con profundizar la represión para quedarse por siempre en el poder, pero muchos venezolanos siguen creyendo en mesías y en que María Corina por arte de magia va a ir a Miraflores y va a sacar a Maduro a patadas.

Imposible llamar cobardes a los venezolanos cuando existe María Corina Machado, quien pone el pecho sin chaleco antibalas y no le importa enfrentarse a una dictadura asesina.

Pero creer que ella tiene una varita con poderes y que ella solita va a sacar a Maduro, es estar desconectado de la realidad.

En Rumania cayó una dictadura de 32 años cuando todo el país se rebeló y duró días en resistencia, hasta que los militares se cansaron y no pudieron contener a la gente. Ahí fue cuando cayó el dictador, cuando sintió la rebeldía del país que dejó de importarle el miedo.

Imposible llamar cobardes a los venezolanos cuando en el 2014, el estado Táchira dio las señales de lo que es una auténtica resistencia. Si lo que pasó en ese estado se hubiera replicado en Caracas, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, Lara, Zulia, Mérida y otros estados, hoy la historia sería distinta.

Pero no fue así. En el 2014 nos dejaron la lucha a los estudiantes, mientras la mayoría estaba resguardada en casa, esperando que un movimiento estudiantil tumbara a Maduro. ¿Y los más pobres qué hicieron? No salieron a protestar. ¿Y los más ricos? Nos dieron la espalda.

Si María Corina logra que Venezuela se levante en una resistencia, sería de admirar, pero lo dudo. Lo más seguro es que el domingo la gente empiece a irse a la playa y a las discotecas y el lunes todo vuelva a la normalidad.

Y claro, empezarán a odiar a María Corina, así como odian a Guaidó, a Rosales, a Leopoldo y a todos, sin darse cuenta que quizás ellos hicieron lo que pudieron, pero que quienes tienen la responsabilidad de salir del horror somos nosotros mismos.

Venezuela tiene dos caminos:

El camino más fácil, es el de la sumisión, el de la rendición. Si nadie se quiere incomodar por el país, pues toca aguantarse a Maduro y a Diosdado unos 20 años más hasta que se mueran y de allí ver si hay alguna posibilidad de recuperar las libertades, pero ya será un país viejo y acostumbrado a vivir en dictadura. Así como es Cuba hoy.

El otro camino, es más incómodo, pero es el de la libertad. Si se quiere que Maduro caiga hoy, toca seguir el mandato de María Corina y "hacer lo que sea necesario", así eso implique sacrificar la rumba, la playa, el cine, el restaurante o el centro comercial durante unos días.

Es decisión de los venezolanos, de nadie más.

Y yo no quiero que nadie muera. Si los venezolanos TODOS entran en resistencia, el régimen saldrá huyendo y en pocos días (y paradójicamente, mientras más gente entre en rebeldía, no habrá muertos ni detenidos), pero si salen unos cuantos a exponerse a la represión y a los colectivos, será más de lo mismo.
Hace días María Corina dijo que TODOS salieran a las calles ayer 9 de enero y la verdad, salieron muchos, pero no salieron todos.

¿Vamos a dejar sola a María Corina así como dejamos solo a Óscar Pérez?

Yesterday, January 9th, hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets with civility, courage, and profound love. More than 180 protests took place in Venezuela and over 150 cities worldwide. Each Venezuelan who took to the streets represents the best of who we are, and the millions that make up the Venezuelan nation, both abroad and at home. I witnessed it, alongside you: That overflowing tri-colored river is the most powerful sight I have ever seen in my life, and it fills me with pride; because despite the display of brutal repressive force, we defeated fear. You are all brave!!

Yesterday reaffirmed my deep confidence that freedom is close. They lost yesterday. The total militarization of Caracas and other cities demonstrates who fears whom; how much they fear the people.

Today, January 10th, Maduro consolidates a coup d'état.

In front of Venezuelans and the world, they decided to cross the red line that formalizes the violation of the National Constitution. They trample on our Constitution. Maduro violates the Constitution flanked by the dictators of Cuba and Nicaragua. That says it all.

Today, Maduro did not wear the band on his chest; he placed it on his ankle, like a shackle, which will tighten more each day. Yesterday, Venezuela witnessed the courage displayed across the country; today the world sees the fear trapped in a room. Do not doubt it: this is over.

Now I want to talk to you about what happened to me yesterday because I know many are concerned. I want to share the facts and my interpretation of them:

As I left the massive gathering in Chacao, many citizens surrounded me and accompanied me until I got on a motorcycle that would take me away. Two other motorcycles accompanied us. Near the Gustavo Herrera high school, several motorcycles with National Bolivarian Police officers tried to intercept us, with long weapons drawn. We were able to move forward, and at the Altamira interchange, I heard several gunshots. The PNB motorcycles intercepted us, and an officer asked me my name to confirm my identity. Immediately, from behind, I was roughly pulled off the motorcycle and into another, between two men. That’s how they are: they attack a woman from behind. During the trip, I heard them say they were heading to Boleita.

After reaching that area, they suddenly stopped and told me they had orders to let me go, and to do so, they asked me to record a video as proof of life. It took me several hours to distance myself from the area and secure myself again. It was then that I learned that the driver of one of the motorcycles that was escorting me from the demonstration had been shot in the leg when PNB officers fired at us. Additionally, he was taken prisoner.

I am fine now, though I have strong pains and bruises in some parts of my body. It is evident that what happened to me yesterday demonstrates the deep contradictions within the regime; their erratic actions are another sign of how divided they are internally.

To this, I add the immediate statements and warnings from world leaders and governments, which made them understand the mistake they made in violently seizing me.

I am deeply grateful to the democratic allies of Venezuela who stand with us in this moment. We know that from today, the pressure will only increase until Maduro understands that it is over.

Yesterday, the regime unleashed brutal repression, pursuing and detaining over 20 citizens. Some of them are leaders in the states of Aragua, Bolívar, Carabobo, Cojedes, Lara, Miranda, Monagas, Portuguesa, Trujillo, Yaracuy, Zulia, and Caracas, including journalists. They are our heroes, and we will liberate them all. To their families, colleagues, and friends: my heart is with you, and you know that no one is left behind here.

Regarding our President-elect, Edmundo González Urrutia, I want to convey several things: We have been in constant communication during his extraordinary journey through the nations of our hemisphere, where he has been received with the honors of an elected head of state and with the love of thousands and thousands of Venezuelans living in these countries.

Edmundo will come to Venezuela to take the oath as Constitutional President of Venezuela at the right moment, when conditions are adequate. In his delirious paranoia, the regime has not only closed Venezuela's airspace but has activated its entire air defense system. We evaluated all of this today and decided that it is not advisable for him to enter Venezuela at this time. I have asked him not to do so because his safety is crucial for the final defeat of the regime and the transition to democracy, which is very close.

Venezuelans, Maduro cannot govern by force in a Venezuela that has chosen to be free.

This country is more united than ever: in its political direction and in our homes.

Yesterday, we demonstrated that we are not afraid, and I know that we will continue to grow in numbers on the streets.

Today, we urge every Venezuelan to assertively exercise their right to protest. Maduro has consolidated the coup d'état and the violation of the Constitution. It is time to do whatever is necessary to restore it.
