My previous spaceflights involved multiple debris avoidance maneuvers. These pre-determined maneuvers adjust the orbit of the ISS to increase separation from tracked objects posing collision risks. With more traffic and activity than ever before, space debris continues to create a growing risk. We must treat this challenge with the same seriousness we apply to launch and reentry safety. The technology to address this problem exists, but we need the global framework and collective discipline to implement it. The choices we make today regarding orbital debris management will determine whether low Earth orbit remains a safe and accessible domain for generations to come.
