@Nemesis_is_now@Frialum There is responsibility, and a price to pay (as there is for the West). But what these countries are proposing is effectively punishing their allies and helping their enemies. It's counterproductive and morally wrong, even if it feels satisfying.
Personally, I don't see how any of these proposals are going to help Ukraine. But I see how they are already helping Putin in isolating Russians from the West and rallying them round the flag.
@Nemesis_is_now@Frialum As an EU citizen, do you hold yourself responsible for decades of EU's appeasement of Putin, commercial and political deals, turning a blind eye on his entrenching authoritarianism, harboring his cronies and money? Unlike Russians, you actually had an opportunity to influence it.
@Frialum No, it's not what I'm saying. But they will get to see even more that the West is against them, as Russians, not against Putin or his clique. And if you think that people will bring down a violent police state because of the Schengen visa ban, I have bad news for you.
@JeromeSaintLam1 No, they will show random Russians who have nothing to do with the war, including those who left their country because they were against it, that they will never be good enough, that Europe will always hate them just because they are Russians - precisely Putin's talking points.
Meanwhile, the measures that would really hurt Putin are neglected. No surprise: they are harder and costlier. Secondary sanctions are barely ever applied, Russian shadow fleet continues to operate, Taurus missiles collect dust, and rearmament remains all talk.
Russian government targets émigrés with its own restrictions. A new law allows confiscation of their property for all sorts of violations. EU seems to be acting in concert with the Kremlin here. Are you sure it's the enemy you should be fighting?
