In the first five months of 2024, @MaktoobMedia received only ₹7,62,813 from readers’ subscriptions. Our expenses exceeded ₹20 lakh, and payments to staff and freelancers are due.

During this period, our editor was named in an FIR for our critical coverage of police bias. We covered hundreds of hate crimes against religious minorities and reported on state apathy towards the marginalized across India.

As part of our election coverage, we broke stories of voter suppression and the lack of transparency in the process. We visited 10 states, reported from all states, spoke to candidates and common people, reviewed the government, and held both ruling and opposition parties accountable. We also covered the ongoing genocide in Gaza with the help of media houses and online media exclusively focused on it.

We are proud to say that our coverage has reached millions of people. On the election results day alone, we reached 8 million people in 24 hours.

Despite financial difficulties, right-wing trolls, and harassment, we are determined to continue our journalism. We believe our journalism is a tool for delivering justice, as we are one of the few media houses in India focusing on human rights violations.
