More than half of people living with HIV in the United States are age 50 or older. A recent article in Alcohol Research: Current Reviews—an NIH/NIAAA publication—shows that alcohol misuse may raise their risk for frailty, falls, and fractures in older adults, putting them at risk for reduced mobility and lower quality of life.
Understanding this connection can help improve prevention and care for both alcohol misuse and these HIV-related health outcomes.
