There are many wild theories doing the rounds about the #IndiaPakistan #ceasefire announced on May 10, 2025. The fact is simple. India already had the upper hand. Accepting Pakistan's ceasefire request, encouraged by the US, was a strategic decision, not a sign of weakness.

Some of these theories reflect a complete lack of understanding of nuclear science and geopolitics.

1. Nuclear tests have distinct signatures. In today’s world with global surveillance and military satellites, such activities cannot go unnoticed.

2. The United States will not use Pakistani space to engage Iran. That would create long-term instability and be a major loss for Pakistan.

3. China benefits when India is occupied in regional conflicts. It keeps global investments flowing into China and maintains internal prosperity. A war with India would mean enormous damage to the Chinese economy. It is not in their interest.

Also, questioning the strategic decisions of India’s defense and foreign policy experts without understanding the full picture is like a layperson telling a neurosurgeon how to perform a complex operation. These experts are trained professionals with years of study, field knowledge, and insight. Let them do their job.

Whatever deal India has entered into, it is safe to assume that it was negotiated with foresight and strength, keeping the long-term interest of the nation and its citizens as the priority.

I am glad that the Honourable Speaker strongly condemned the Emergency, highlighted the excesses committed during that time and also mentioned the manner in which democracy was strangled. It was also a wonderful gesture to stand in silence in honour of all those who suffered during those days.

The Emergency was imposed 50 years ago but it is important for today's youth to know about it because it remains a fitting example of what happens when the Constitution is trampled over, public opinion is stifled and institutions are destroyed.
