What happened in Moscow today reinforced a thought I’ve had for some time.

Our appetite for taking losses and enduring disruptions is relatively low as a society.

A few successful strikes, airport closures, disruptions to daily life, and relentless media coverage could generate so much public pressure that the government’s room for military response starts shrinking.

In the drone age, deterrence is not just about the ability to inflict pain. It’s also about the ability to absorb it. Are we ready as a society??

My point is that I understand when #India doesn't name the perpetrator when it condemns the Israeli bombing of Qatar. I understand when India doesn't name when it condemns the Russian attacks in Ukraine. I also understand if India doesn't want to name when it condemns the Iranian attack on Persian Gulf monarchies. That's strategic balancing. But I don't understand why India doesn't name the country that fired missiles at vessels carrying Indian nationals, and killed three of them, in India's neighbourhood waters!

Let that sink in.

But governments, intelligence services, and influence networks spend enormous resources making sure you think exactly that.

The goal is never to convince you directly.
The goal is to convince you that "everyone else already agrees."

A fake account posts it.
A network amplifies it.
Algorithms reward it.
Real people repeat it.

And suddenly propaganda becomes public opinion.
The most effective disinformation campaign is not the one that fools your enemies.

It's the one that convinces you to spread it yourself.

So the next time you see a viral anti-Indian narrative exploding across your feed, ask yourself:

Are you witnessing a genuine consensus?
Or are you watching a perception being manufactured in real time?
