Every January 1st, we all do it—set resolutions we’re so sure we’ll stick to this time.
But have you ever wondered why we even bother?
Turns out, this isn’t just a modern quirk.
It’s a tradition that’s been around for 4,000 years.
The Babylonians were the OG resolution makers.
During their New Year festival, Akitu, they didn’t aim to hit 10,000 steps or cut carbs. Instead, they promised their gods to repay debts and return borrowed items.
Their motivation? Keeping the gods happy so their crops wouldn’t fail. Talk about high stakes. 😂
Fast forward to ancient Rome, and Julius Caesar declared January 1st the start of the year.
Romans made resolutions to Janus, the two-faced god of beginnings, vowing to be better citizens.
Think of it as a moral reset for the empire—no Instagram reels needed.
By the Middle Ages, resolutions became a bit more spiritual.
Christians used the New Year to reflect on the past and set intentions for a more virtuous future.
It was about soul-searching and starting fresh—sound familiar?
Today, resolutions have become a mix of ambition, hope, and sometimes guilt (looking at you, unused gym memberships👀).
But at their core, they’re still about one thing: HOPE.
Hope that this year will be different.
Hope that we can be better.
So, as you write down your goals, remember—you’re part of a tradition that’s older than most things we take for granted.
It’s not just about ticking boxes. It’s about the belief in starting over, trying again, and maybe inspiring the people around you to do the same.
And speaking of writing down goals…
Not-so-coincidentally, I built https://t.co/jxgre05zKS —a note-taking tool that makes capturing and keeping track of your resolutions a breeze.
Speak or type your goals, stay organized, and actually stick to them this year.
Wishing everyone a great 2025! ❤️

Exciting times lie as @speechtonote made its debut on @AppSumo, sparking considerable interest and garnering an impressive response from its vibrant community.
The first 24 hours post-launch were a whirlwind of activity, with around 30 sign-ups for our pro plan, and nearly a thousand curious visitors translating to a conversion rate wavering between 3 to 5 percent.
My dedication to customer interaction was tested as I tirelessly responded to over 25 queries. It surely was fun. The highlight came in the form of one amazing review, reinforcing the value of our hard work.
However, success isn't without its hiccups. We encountered a critical challenge when our servers struggled under the increased load, resulting in downtime between 45 to 75 minutes.
This obstacle was a stark reminder of the importance of scalable infrastructure, and we've taken immediate steps to address this to ensure resilience in the future.
This launch has not only provided us with valuable feedback to guide our product roadmap but also instilled in us a sense of pride and motivation.
We're grateful for the overwhelming support and are more energized than ever to continue this journey with our community. 🙏
