An incredible 48 hours on the Garvaghy Road. Our residents and supporters stood strong and stood together. The small things often go unseen, homes opened, coats, food, warmth and cups of tea shared with strangers. One community, standing as one. Proud to be from here. ❤️ 💪
Regardless of left or right we shouldn't be putting working class people down, we should be trying to understand why we feel the way we do and addressing our concerns rather than this haughty classist behavior because treating us like this makes us worse.
This whole Maccabi Tel Aviv - Aston Villa issue should be a case study in the manipulative use of allegations of antisemitism.
It turns out the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans stemmed from intelligence shared by the European Policing Network to Westmidlands Police regarding the danger posed by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans. It is for this reason that there was a 'high risk' designation because of violent incidents that had occurred elsewhere in Europe perpetrated by Maccabi Tel Aviv fans.
Our Home Secretary was made aware of this ban last week. So, the government has had a whole week to prepare a comprehensive and sensible statement / position regarding the ban. Instead, our political leaders have consciously and deliberately chosen to further a malicious narrative, claiming falsely that this is a case of antisemitism; that Jews in the UK are not safe and cannot be adequately protected if they attend football matches.
All of this is in furtherance of a narrative that pro-Palestine activity is somehow an imminent and serious threat to Jewish communities and the very future of Jewish life in the United Kingdom. This, in turn, is also furthering islamophobic, anti-Arab, and anti-Palestinian racism and dehumanising narratives about Palestinians and their supporters.
What a complete mess this has become all because our government has no spine and seeks to exploit the sense of insecurity and vulnerability of Jews as a convenient scapegoat.
We care deeply, Kirsty.
Our members assist 5 million passengers every day. They don't want to inconvenience anybody but sadly TfL walked out of talks that could have averted this action last Wednesday, and have not returned.
Sorry, who are you to tell me what life I live? I’m working class. I literally work to live. If I stop working, I can’t pay my bills. Just because I went and got a PhD doesn’t mean my social class changed. And trust me when I say, I’m still treated and spoken to like some idiot chav on my council estate even to this day by my own peers, so I’m working class when it suits everyone, and suddenly I’m not when it doesn’t.
Only working class people in roles like mine will understand that experience - the way people categorise you for their own convenience - just as you are doing here.
@Edwina_Currie apparently having an education means I’m not working class - which if anything, only goes to prove the bias against working class people - that we cannot possibly be educated or successful, because that must mean we are not working class… right?
When going to school hungry, then coming home to overcrowded, noisy houses, with stressed out parent(s) unable to help with homework due to long working hours, addiction issues or poor mental health, education quickly falls down your list of priorities. This is what poverty does!

Children can lose their freedom for many reasons: police custody, detention, secure facilities, or immigration processes. In Scotland, many in conflict with the law face overlaps between welfare and justice systems.
Our youth justice Practice Guide covers this subject in Section 17: https://t.co/a8OO7olByf
The Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice has reviewed the determinations made by Sheriff Collins following the tragic death of Jack McKenzie. Sheriff Collins has identified seven recommendations to better protect all young people held in HMP&YOI Polmont. The findings of the inquiry show that his death was preventable, and we urge all agencies involved to implement the recommendations so that nothing like this can ever happen again. The health and wellbeing of every young person is paramount and a collective responsibility for everyone.
Latest stats show that the number of children in care in Scotland has fallen again and is now 24% lower than a decade ago. Also, children are most likely to be in kinship care.
Please spare me the, “I don’t believe any woman who waits decades to come forward.” Imagine wilfully erasing the reality of countless legitimate, historical abuse cases… Jimmy Savile, Bill Cosby, Rolf Harris, Harvey Weinstein, Catholic abuse scandals, Larry Nassar etc etc
Today our work has been recognised during a Scottish Parliament debate on child criminal exploitation.
The Minister for Children, Young People and Keeping the Promise, Natalie Don-Innes references practitioner training from CYCJ and @actnforchildren for Children which will be available soon.
This evidence based training is grounded in research. You can read the scoping study on Understanding Child Criminal Exploitation in Scotland at our website here: https://t.co/kbEGobL7tr
