@Belatucadros_01@_Cyber_Six_@IronlilyS All I know is that they are a race of Greek giants, descended from a Greek demi-god, son of Poseidon, and that they lived either in Sicily/Italy, in close prox to Greek colonies, or in North Africa, in close prox to Phoenician colonies.
@_Cyber_Six_@Belatucadros_01@IronlilyS Had an argument with a guy once whose whole argument for "giants shouldn't wear greek armor/armor in general" was "they non-human," "half-way cross the world," and, my personal favorite, "I read the book!"
Yeah... they very clearly didn't.
@Nopilled16622@irgendoeppis1@MedievalScholar So what I dont understand is why you find the idea that a people descended from a Greek god, who live in close proximity to Greek culture, and are wearing the same armor as the Greeks, such a hard pill to swallow.
@Nopilled16622@irgendoeppis1@MedievalScholar And last, but certainly not least: The Laestrogynians (the giants) are said to be descended from Laestrygon... a son of Poseidon, Greek god of the Sea and brother of Zeus.
@Nopilled16622@irgendoeppis1@MedievalScholar Additionally, several ancient greek and roman historians place the homeland of the giants in Sicily and Italy, and guess who had a bunch of colonies there? The Greeks.
@Nopilled16622@irgendoeppis1@MedievalScholar Except they aren't half a world away. They're in the Mediterranean. And the Greeks made many colonies across the Mediterranean.
Furthermore, maps of known Phoenician colonies places the land of the giants close to one such colony, and the Pho had a similar culture/armament.
@Nopilled16622@irgendoeppis1@MedievalScholar We see real world examples of this as well. The Orchid mantis evolved to resemble an orchid so that it could hunt and hide better, yet I think you'll notice that it is not classified as a plant.
@Nopilled16622@irgendoeppis1@MedievalScholar You kinda are, actually.
Plus, the definition of what constitutes a human does not extend to physical appearance. Greek Nymphs, for instance, have the appearance of a human woman, yet are not human. Cyclops also have the appearance of a man, yet are not human.
@irgendoeppis1@Nopilled16622@MedievalScholar Bro is having a fit cause he thinks that a non-human giant isn't going to look human.
Buddy is gonna have a rude awakening once he finds out about the Cyclops and the Greek gods.
@Nopilled16622@Urukblade2@MedievalScholar like humans. A cyclops for instance, is a giant, that looks like a man, except its only got one eye. The GODS look like humans, but they aren't human themselves.
@Nopilled16622@Dimir_Knight@MedievalScholar Depending on what you have for source material, it also says that they were human giants. And depending on what your definition of a monster giant is, then a giant can look like a human but not actually be one.
