President Donald #Trump says he has already signed an executive order that will give "a mandatory death penalty for anyone who murders a police officer. Tonight I'm asking Congress to pass that policy into permanent law."
What are your thoughts?
Fun fact you may not know, the two stands on the left and right of President #Trump are actually teleprompters.
They are see-through to attendees, but the speaker at the podium can see the speech on the stand. This lets them read a speech and appear to look at the audience.
President #Trump says reciprocal #tariffs will come into effect on April 2, not on April 1 because he didn't want people to think it was an #AprilFoolsDay joke.
This means whatever a country has tariffed the U.S., the U.S. will match and tariff them back with.
The #Constitution requires the #president to update #Congress on the state of the union “from time to time.” It's usually called the #StateoftheUnion because most presidents give it once per year.
Typically, the #StateoftheUnion speech is given about one year into the presidency.
Something you'll notice about tonight's speech from President Donald #Trump is that it's not a #StateoftheUnion speech, but rather a Presidential Address to Joint Session of Congress.
#Congress Congressman Al Green, the U.S. representative from Texas's 9th congressional district in his 11th term, was just removed from the room. #Trump continues to address Congress.
In case you haven't had time to watch the #inauguration, here are some things that stood out:
1. Elon Musk's excitement when Trump promises to 'plant the stars and stripes' on Mars
2. Carrie Underwood's impromptu acapella performance
3. Logan & Jake Paul attended the ceremony
