Ralphie’s handlers (CU Boulder students) say you’re not sprinting with this little gal (800 lbs) rather you’re “holding on while she hauls you.”
Ralphies are always females because they’re smaller with more manageable temperaments, two handlers in the front, two on the sides to slow her down, one in the loop at the back that’s the e brake on her custom harness/headstall. They run a right hand horseshoe with 15 students on the field to keep her path clear. Unlike Bevo and other live mascots she’s never sedated (minus all the weed smoke in the air at Folsom). If they can tell she doesn’t feel like running they cancel it, the previous Ralphie wasn’t big on running (she’s now retired).
Handlers work with her 20-30 hours a week, they need to lift weights and run. Bison have bad eyes and great hearing and smell. She knows her handlers and loves the trailer she ends her run in because it has a lot of treats. Handlers are varsity athletes that can earn letters (similar to rodeo at many schools) the 20-30 hour commitment plus classes is a big responsibility so these are elite kids.
@Romi_Bean Not saying it’s the perfect move but it’s time for Bednar to go. Can’t fire the whole team but too consistently they have fizzled in the playoffs and most of those times they were favored. Thanks coach for the one you got us but it’s time.
@TroyRenck Just one more Nikola, just one time can we outlast these two (and the Twolves of course)? One is nice, but 7 got us two and I’d like to see Nikola get us a second one.
@Smartnetworth1 Real talk. But the sweet spot is “semi” retired at 50. 38 now, been putting more towards our mortgage monthly since 2019, and been steadily adding to the portfolio and 401. Goal at 50 is to “work” cutting grass at a golf course and enjoying cheap green fees.
