At Habitat Waterloo Region, we don’t just build homes – we build communities. Every day, we see dreams come true through the hard work and dedication of volunteers, partners, and supporters. Together, we create more than just a house; we create a foundation for a better future.💙
If you’re in the Waterloo region and want to participate in fascinating conversations on the future of cities please join us for the Jarislowsky Lectures, part of the Global Engagement Seminar, which I’m teaching with @LeiaMinaker. @futurecitiesin

We are excited to partner with @habitatwr and @BuildNowWR on this development which would provide new housing opportunities for the people we support! Thank you to the @CityofWaterloo for considering this community proposal.

📢 BIG NEWS!
We're taking action to protect renters from bad-faith landlords.
It’s great to see this move forward. It’s going to make a big difference in the lives of so many.
It’s #TalkToAStranger week From November 18th-24th!
We encourage everyone to take a moment to reconnect with the world around us by embracing the power of simple interactions.
Say hi, share a smile or even open a door for a stranger!

If HST had been waived @HabitatWR would have had $1M more for affordable homes on Kehl Street.
It’s an exemption already in place for for-profit rentals.
@ElizabethMay and I are glad to support extending it for builders like @HabitatCanada.
We could do it by taxing REITs.
The core skills of learning are a critical eye and an open mind.
Critical thinking is refusing to accept ideas at face value. Don't believe information until it's verified.
Openness is refusing to reject ideas at face value. Don't disbelieve information until it's falsified.
That’s what I don’t get. Ban parking on major streets.
Cycle tracks are travel lanes, while street-side parking is just cheap, highly subsidized storage.

Being obsessed with happiness can make us unhappy.
Joy doesn't arise from ruminating about our emotions. It comes from immersing ourselves in worthwhile experiences.
Happiness is not a goal to pursue. It's a byproduct of leading a life of meaning and engagement.
@Trevornoah
After generations of isolating young families in suburbs and relegating older adults to nursing homes through our city and housing designs—with rather bleak outcomes for all—there is now a growing movement to reclaim what we’ve lost: a genuine sense of community, much like the village model.
The idea of aging surrounded by young people and children, ideally in a walkable neighbourhood where life is shared across generations, is far more appealing to me than the prospect of growing old in a seniors’ home.
Don't you agree?
