While it’s important to support our students and ask for educational reforms that positively impact the future of our youth, it’s also very important that peaceful protests by students are Not hijacked by anti national elements to create chaos & change the nature of the protest.

Seeing so much hate & divide online makes me wonder if bad elements in & outside our country have already started to work overtime to weaponise the anger & frustration felt by our students.

I have always believed in hard work, equality and excellence & that should never be compromised. I also believe in our democracy, law and order & our government, therefore I sincerely hope that both sides enter into meaningful & constructive dialogue & weed out any nefarious elements & agendas out of this protest & conversation , so the future is bright for our youth and for our democracy ! 🇮🇳 Jai Hind !

A two-time gallantry award winner, he was the man the police sent when the job was impossibly difficult. A farmer’s son from Narsinghpur, he was just two months away from his wedding, as per Navbharat Times.

Sharing this because the heroism and sacrifices of our security forces should dominate media and social media. But sadly, we’ve normalised the opposite. The moment a terrorist is neutralised, the narrative instantly shifts to emotional sob stories about their “circumstances,” while real heroes like Ashish Sharma barely get a fraction of that attention.

Educated Indian elite - I count myself in this - accepted what is known as the "Washington Consensus", with globalization driven by the World Economic Forum, Davos.

That era received a mortal blow during the Global Financial Crisis in 2008-9, died during the pandemic and today we perform the last rites.

Here is how I believe we should navigate this new era, treating this challenge as an opportunity.

1. Every tech we do not have is deep tech and I do not mean LLMs (alone) here and it includes advanced metallurgy, composite materials, DC motors, batteries, medical equipment, network equipment, drones, jet engines, robots, bioreactors and so on and on.

2. A 5-10 year sprint to catch up in every such "basic deep tech". In some areas, like GPUs or fighter jets, it may take 10-15 years, but we must put our heads down and do it. China has done it and it can be done. We have the raw human talent in abundance and we can train. This much I know.

3. We need a long term orientation. Venture capital with 7-8 year exit cycles cannot do it. It promotes a short termism that is at odds with what our nation needs right now. More broadly, quarterly earnings cycles are a poor match for the long term catch up investment we have to make. This essentially mandates that our big industrial houses must invest heavily in R&D, keeping in mind that catch-up R&D (in particular) is not expensive, it is time-intensive.

4. More broadly, we don't want our smartest talent going into high finance - we must realize we are borrowing what failed America. It is a colossal misallocation of resources. The mortal blow of the GFC I referred to was all due to "smartest talent going into finance" in America and ultimately that is what led to MAGA, once Occupy-Wall-Street failed with the left - it is a different matter that MAGA got coopted by Wall Street.

India cannot afford to be addicted to high finance, it would lead to societal ruin. We must view making money on money with the appropriate caution that our ancients taught us.

5. I will come back to talent, the most important point of all. There is a lot of raw young talent in rural Bharat that is waiting for the opportunity. Patient capital is about nurturing this talent, bring it on stream.

Once you discover what we have discovered, you will stop fighting about reservation and so on. My own R&D team reflects our society in a deep way and without any compulsion from the government. JEE, NEET, UPSC etc do not capture the essence of this talent pool. I do not care about any of those exams, I ignore all those "signals" and go with the evidence of our own eyes to discover and nurture talent.

6. Climate change. Have you noticed how quickly the silicon valley elite dumped climate change and got on board the "energy to the max" with AI? We need EI - Energy-efficient Intelligence. Climate change is also a life style issue and Bharat has to be the light to the world in showing how to live in harmony with mother nature while building a technologically advanced society. Bharat Mata is mother nature.

We have faced far worse adversity before and we will face this. If we seize this moment, we will come to see it as a blessing in the long term.

In India, following these few survival skills could cut your chances of dying randomly by half :

Don't go to crowded places.

Follow defensive driving. Don't stare, abuse (even with closed glass), or argue with aggressors on the road.

Anticipate stray/pet dogs at any spot. Don't leave your kids out of sight.

Don't walk or drive under electrical wires, especially look for them in the streets before you enter.

Be a socio-political critic, but try not to hurt the ego of any politician, babu, cop, or religious fanatic personally.

Learn 8–10 common phrases of the local language in language-sensitive states if you are planning to stay there for long, or just carry a skull cap.

Anticipate open sewers and manholes, especially on roads you are not familiar with.

Don't stand under giant billboards or flyovers, especially during rains.

Try not to go out at night. If you have to, don't go alone. Especially women of your family, don't care if someone calls you a misogynist.

Avoid nightclubs where Scorpio/Thar-wale urban dehatis are allowed.

Avoid eating out as much as you can, especially street food.

Health insurance is almost a fraud, govt hospitals are in bad shape, and private ones are too costly. So better stay in shape and avoid frequent hospital visits. Run, exercise, eat healthy.

ज़िम्मेदारी
दुनिया में जो कुछ पाने लायक है उस पर वर्क करना पड़ता है। चाहे अच्छा करियर हो या अच्छे रिश्ते। कई बार लगता है बात नहीं बन पाएगी। और नहीं हो पाएगा। इसे छोड़ना पड़ेगा। मगर हम रिश्ते को ज़रूरी समझते हैं तो उसे बार-बार संवारते हैं। तब भी सामने वाले को मनाते हैं जब जानते थे कि हमारी गलती नहीं थी। तब भी हम सामने वाले को शर्मिंदा नहीं करते जब हम जानते थे कि उसी की गलती थी।

रिश्तों में कितनी ही बार ऐसा होता है जब आपको लगता है कि मैं इस आदमी के साथ नहीं रह सकती या मैं इस औरत के साथ नहीं रह सकता। मगर जैसे-तैसे खुद को संभाल के, अपने गुस्से को जज़्ब करके आप खुद को उस नाज़ुक पल से निकाल ले जाते हैं। फिर चीज़ें नॉर्मल हो जाती हैं और बाद में आपको इस बात का गर्व भी होता है कि कैसे उस नाज़ुक मौके पर मैं खुद पर काबू रख पाया।
कोई भी रिश्ता उन नाज़ुक मौकों पर खुद पर काबू रखने की एक लंबी श्रृंखला होता है। जिस रिश्ते पर 10-15 साल बाद आप गर्व करते हैं उसे आप न जाने कितने ही कमजो़र क्षणों से बचाकर लाए होते हैं।

मगर Instant gratification (फौरी खुशी) के दौर पर में आज किसी में भी रिश्तों को वक्त देने का पेशंस नहीं। हर पहले झगड़े पर लगता है बहुत हो गया या ये इंसान मेरे लिए ठीक नहीं और आप Perfect इंसान की तलाश में Move on कर जाते हैं। वो Perfect इंसान जिसकी तलाश इंडियाना जोन्स के किसी खजाने से भी ज़्यादा मुश्किल है। जिसे ढूंढने के लिए आपके पास कोई नक्शा भी नहीं है। आप सिर्फ इस झूठे भरोसे से नए आदमी की तलाश में निकल पड़ते हैं ताकि उस रिश्ते से निकाल जाने के लिए खुद के सामने कोई रिवॉर्ड रख सकें।

इस सोच की वजह से आज रिश्ते आज रेडलाइट पर मिलने वाले किसी चाइनीज़ चार्जर से भी कम चलते हैं। मगर ऑनलाइन खाना और सामना ऑर्डर करने और रिश्तों में यही फर्क है। रिश्तों में कुछ भी Instant नहीं होता। यहां कुछ भी Tailor Made नहीं है। पसंद का सूट बनवाया जा सकता है मगर रिश्तों में समझ बनानी पड़ती है। यहां कोई आपका नाप नहीं लेगा बल्कि खुद आपको सामने वाले के दिल और समझ की गहराई नापनी होती है। उस रिश्ते की ज़िम्मेदारी लेनी होती है।

मगर ज़िम्मेदारी ऐसी चीज़ है कि न समझो तो इंसान अपने मां-बाप की भी नहीं समझता। समझो, तो सर्दी में नाइट ड्यूटी कर रहे गार्ड की भी फिक्र होती है। करियर में पीछे रह गए दोस्तों की भी चिंता होती है और अपने छोटे बच्चों को अकेला छोड़कर आने वाली कामवाली के लिए भी बुरा लगता है। आसपास मौजूद इतने सारे दुखों के बीच आप खुद को बेहद छोटा और असहाय पाते हैं। कामयाबी शायद कुछ और नहीं, बस अपने दायरे में आने वाले लोगों के दुखों की ज़िम्मेदारी उठा पाना है, न कि अपनी खुशियों में मगरूर रहकर हर किसी के प्रति आंख मूंद लेना, एक ज़रा सी बात पर उससे पिंड छुड़ा लेना। चले जाने का विकल्प हमेशा खुला होता है। साथ रहने के लिए बहुत कोशिश करनी पड़ती है। बशर्ते आप मानते हों कि साथ रहना ज़रूरी है।
