Out of the 144 wards under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, 113 are Hindu-majority. In this Assembly election, the BJP won in 101 of those wards.
โข In North Kolkataโs Chowringhee Assembly constituency, BJP candidate Santosh Pathak was leading in 7 out of 11 wards - namely wards 45, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, and 52.
However, in the Muslim-dominated wards around Rajabazar, Ripon Street, and Alimuddin Street, especially Ward 62, he trailed by more than 23,000 votes. In the end, this gap caused the BJP to lose the Chowringhee seat.
โข In the Beleghata constituency, Kunal Ghosh secured huge leads in the Urdu-speaking Muslim-majority wards 28, 29, and 36 around Rajabazar. As a result, despite the BJP performing well in the remaining wards, the Trinamool Congress ultimately won the Beleghata seat.
โข In South Kolkataโs Kasba constituency, the BJP was leading in 5 out of 6 wards - wards 91, 92, 67, 107, and 108.
But in the Muslim-majority Ward 66, the Trinamool got a massive lead of nearly 52,000 votes. On the strength of this lead, Javed Khan won by more than 15,000 votes.
โข In the Entally constituency, 2 out of the 5 wards are Hindu-majority. The BJP won in wards 58 and 55, but due to the results in the remaining three wards, BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal lost and Trinamoolโs Sandipan Saha emerged victorious.
โข In the Ballygunge constituency, the BJP was ahead in wards 68, 69, and 85. But in the remaining Urdu-speaking Muslim-majority wards of Park Circus, the Trinamool built such huge leads that they eventually won Ballygunge by more than 70,000 votes.
โข However, across Kolkata city as a whole, the BJP won a total of 10 Assembly constituencies.
โข In North Kolkata, the BJP won - Maniktala, Shyampukur, Kashipur-Belgachia, and Jorasanko.
โข In South Kolkata, the BJP won - Rashbehari, Bhabanipur, Jadavpur, Tollygunge, Behala East, and Behala West.
โข Except for Tollygunge, the BJP won each of these constituencies by margins ranging from around 15,000 to 30,000 votes. In contrast, in 2021 the BJP had lost many of these same seats by margins of over 30,000 votes.
Hello @amazonIN@amazon@AmazonNews_IN I have ordered this product on 7th May but still it was not dispatched, no tracking, no whereabouts. Very unprofessional from @amazonIN . Kindly provide the dispatch details.
Appealing for Work From Home (WFH) wonโt change anything. If the govt genuinely wants it, it can strongly push or effectively enforce WFH in sectors where physical presence isnโt essential.
Itโs common in the West but not in India because Indian companies still operate on a โpresence equals productivityโ mindset, where managers feel employees work seriously only when they are physically visible. If an employee isnโt exhausted by traffic, long hours, and physical attendance, they assume no real work is being done. Thereโs also a deeply ingrained feudal mindset where control, surveillance, and making juniors โfeel the grindโ is treated as management instead of actual productivity.
Otherwise, WFH can solve many problems for both individuals and the country. It reduces traffic, pollution, fuel consumption, stress, travel time, road accidents, and daily expenses for individuals while improving work-life balance. For India, it cuts crude oil consumption and import bills, reduces pressure on dollars, inflation, and urban infrastructure, while easing overcrowding in metro cities and saving huge amounts of productive time otherwise wasted in commuting.
1/6: ThePrint analysed constituency-level data from across West Bengal to understand performance of the major parties, particularly to evaluate the impact of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
All media houses have been tasked to show that SIR is not the cause of TMC defeat. So media is being dishonest with presenting data and trying to present the narrative as instructed by BJP. But here is the real story. In 49 seats where SIR deletions exceeded the winning margin, BJP won 26, TMC won 21. But most important factor, of these 49 seats, 48 were held by TMC in 2021. Only Darjeeling was with BJP. But after deletions, BJP won 25 of those former TMC seats in this group.
Top 20 seats with highest SIR deletions all 20 were TMC seats in 2021. In 2026 BJP took 6 of those top 20. In 54 seats where deletions were over 5 percent of electorate BJP won 36 TMC won 18.
Under adjudication voters in these same 49 seats also exceeded winning margins in every case. These were flagged during SIR and were unresolved. The 49 seats spread across 15 districts. Murshidabad alone had 8 of them. All were previous TMC strongholds. BJP converted 25 former TMC seats into wins where deletions outnumbered margins.
All these figures are from Election Commission data matched with 2021 and 2026 results. These are the things Media is not showing. Further detailed analysis might show how exactly with the help of EC and SC, BJP stole the Mandate.
After the dust has settled do remember that one of the worldโs biggest and richest political parties did every thing it possibly could to fight an election in West Bengal against one woman. They didnโt want to merely defeat her party, they wanted to decimate her political presence altogether. When you think about this, remember the local BJP party apparatus in West Bengal was not very organized as compared to the TMC. This is where the SIR deletions definitely have helped if the goal was not merely winning, but decisively trouncing the incumbent leader.
They used the EC and SIR, their boilerplate communal campaigning, loads of gender-specific toxicity against Mamata to defeat her.
But think about it. They needed to do all this to defeat one woman. Just one woman.
To me this says a lot. It tells me women politicians are perceived as a real threat. It also tells me that unlike a lot of other parties, BJP knows its weaknesses and plans ahead on how to overcome them by looking for solutions outside of the rules of the game.
I think opposition parties need to pull up their socks. Iโm saying it now. 2029 will go the BJP way if opposition parties donโt get smarter and more tactical.
Sabar Institute and Prannoy Royโs DeKoder show us why BJP came up trumps in West Bengal
We posed a question yesterday: will @MamataOfficial be able to take on the combined might of the BJP and the EC? The results showed that she couldnโt; no wonder, she lost the election.
In 2021, the TMC had won with a 10% vote margin against the BJP. In 2026, it polled 5% less vote than the BJP. So it was a swing of 7.5% vote share that sinked Mamata.
We had seen how the Election Commission had masterminded it through the SIR deletions: Muslims constitute 27% of the voters in West Bengal, but out of the SIR deletions, 34% were Muslims. Hindus are 72% of the stateโs population but the proportion of Hindus deleted through the SIR constituted only 63%. So, before the election campaign began, The Election Commission had handed the BJP a head start of 16% of votes.
@SabarInstitute_ had painstakingly stringed together lakhs of cases of genuine voters who were disenfranchised by the evil design of the @ECISVEEP Election Commission. Please see the coincidence: that 27+6 lakh genuine voters were disenfranchised, despite holding all eligible documents and BJPโs vote share exceeded that of the TMC, as compiled till last night, by about 33 lakh!
@PrannoyRoy7749โs team at @DeKoderAI showed us how the SIR deletions were the highest in the constituencies where the BJP had polled very poorly in 2021. For example, it showed, how the largest deletions were carried out in the 20 constituencies that had the biggest gap in the vote share in 2021 election โ where the average Trinamul vote share was 59% and average BJP vote share was 26%. Such constituencies received special attention from the Election Commission to scale down the TMCโs lead by deletion of the minority votes.
Take the case of Bhabanipur: as @ttindia pointed out, names of more than 40% Muslims were deleted from the electoral rolls of Mamataโs constituency though Muslims constitute only about 20% of the population there.
It was all part of a grand design of the EC to instal the BJP in power in the last bastion that stood out against the communal and fascist forces in the country.
Let us now brace for darker times ahead!
Recently I ordered Cadbury dairy milk chocolate from @Milkbasketin and fraud defective products have been delivered. Chocolate bar is half missing and without the typical design blocks @DairyMilkIn. @jagograhakjago how fraudulent food products are available in market.
I think this is something you must do.
Buy a TDS meter from Blinkit/Instamart, costs Rs 150-200 and check the TDS of your drinking water. Just found out the water I was drinking had a reading of 40 ppm. Devoid of any minerals, causing bloating and stomach issues. It deteriorated slowly, without us noticing. Despite having a mineral candle connected to RO.
I ordered Bisleri bottles to check with the dame device. Their reading came out to be 160 ppm. I think thatโs ideal.
