I understand that the social security conversation is political poison. But I’m not running for office so I don’t care about that. Taking huge chunks out of the paychecks of young working Americans in order to pay for the retirements of older Americans who have a net worth several times higher, all to prop up a system that everyone knows likely won’t be there when those younger people are retirement age themselves, is morally abhorrent and economically insane. Everyone knows it, too, but we’re held hostage by elderly politicians who refuse to surrender power, and older voters who, as a group (with exceptions, obviously), simply don’t care all that much about the financial and cultural future their grandchildren will inherit.
Democrat socialism is to Socialism what Socialism is to Communism. Issa Da Same Shite.
I know, I know: worker owned vs government owned, means of production, yada, yada, yada. Issa da same incentivizing of mediocrity, dressed in an oppressive bastardized version of Equality.
President Trump’s proposal to revise the U.S. Census in 2030 to exclude illegal aliens would cut an estimated 18 million people
The Census is used for apportionment of House seats and for Electoral Votes
Why should we reward states giving sanctuary to criminals with more power?
So umpires are getting scrutinized and lambasted for missing pitches an 1/8” of an inch to an inch off the plate that really isn’t the plate as MLB only counts the back half of home plate. Imagine being told you are wrong by a computer that the pitch you called a strike because it caught the front half of the plate is actually a ball. Then getting crap from all the younger, nerdy generation because it’s so EZ to tell if a pitch is a strike at 100 mph or a ball from your fucking couch. Get a grip people. They won’t call the real zone because hitters would struggle more than they do now. Imagine that.
WHOLESOME: #Cowboys superstar WR CeeDee Lamb gave his touchdown ball to his grandmother after scoring in his home state of Texas.
Lamb grew up in Texas and played high school football in the Houston area.
A special moment for CeeDee and his family.
👏❤️
When I'm fully unleashed and get to tell this story in detail, country by country, operation by operation, I don't think the world will ever view the history of the past decade the same way again.
James Talarico says he supports the Second Amendment.
Then he says an assault weapons ban is still on the table.
Not kind of.
Not maybe.
“Absolutely.”
That is what makes this so dangerous politically.
It does not sound like Beto yelling, “Hell yes.”
It sounds calm.
Measured.
Reasonable.
But underneath the tone, the policy is the same:
Ban the AR-15.
Limit magazines.
Call it common sense.
Then say you respect the right to self-defense.
But a right to defend yourself does not mean much if the politician gets to decide which effective tools you are allowed to use.
Especially in Texas.
Especially when police are minutes away, or not coming at all.
So be honest:
Is this actually pro-2A, or just gun control with a softer voice?
The Cowboys offense is inordinately talented. They obviously have playmakers all over the place.
At a certain point though, the play-caller has to provide an advantage beyond the talent on the field. He has to win the chess match.
That isn't happening right now.
We are at a point where it is truly impossible for the Cowboys defense to be this consistently bad.
They have changed so many things. Coaches. Players.
How are they so consistently getting beaten? By everyone?
The Texas Quote of the Day: "But you can’t really put your finger on it. It’s funny. You see the influence not just in the music, but the way Stevie Ray dressed. You see blues guys wearing Stevie’s persona like a uniform. There are guitar heroes and then there are icons. And he’s way up there at the top of that list. I think of Albert King, Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Clapton. Stevie was the most powerful and dynamic out of all those guys. You could tell his influences, that he respected what came before, but he put these twists on them that made them his own. And that’s what people have been trying to figure out and analyze ever since. Maybe it’s the amps? Maybe it’s the pedals? Maybe it’s the Strat? Or the pickups. No, the dude is just badass. And you can’t touch him."
---- Gary Clark, Jr. talks about Stevie Ray Vaughan in a Texas Monthly interview, 2014. Stevie Ray was born 72 years ago today.
Shown here: another photo of Stevie Ray and Double Trouble at Sam's Bar-B-Que in Austin. This was also taken in 1981 by Traces of Texas reader Watt Casey and I am so grateful to Watt for letting me post it here. Watt has taken an incredible collection of photos of musicians like Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Eric Clapton and many more. You can find them in his excellent book "My Guitar is a Camera." Thank you, Watt!
