I don’t care if they drink too much, didn’t have enough unconditional love as a child, have a deep well of shame driving their behavior, have a personality disorder or trauma-abusers choose to abuse. Period. End of story. They must be held accountable.
Literally no one is complaining about virtuous masculinity.
There’s no war against work boots or Carhartts or men who put in long hours doing grunt work to provide for their families. No one is staging protests against forklifts or calloused hands or hairy chests or bulging biceps.
It’s not masculinity that’s under attack; it’s the abuse of power that too often accompanies it.
Virtuous masculinity is still in high demand. And the best men I know don’t run scared of wounded women crying for justice.
@egerphd Sidebar idea…our organization facilitates a domestic violence offender group for those who identify as LGBTQI if you’re at any point interested in a guest lecture…
Thank you, @jacksonkatz , for this dynamic @TEDx talk on #genderbasedviolence. We do need ALL men to speak up in every situation against this part of our culture. Bravo! Jackson Katz: Violence against women -- it's a men's issue https://t.co/ule1YWtXsH

This. My abuser was a powerful & beloved pastor of a parish of 10,000!! Who do you think they believed, rallied behind versus who they vilified and condemned? You’re probably right. But I persevered and got out.
Let’s talk #restorativejustice in #genderedviolence…. If research studies indicate a reduction in recidivism AND increased victim safety, why is this not a more common intervention?
