🇺🇸🔥🇮🇹🇪🇺 Major political clash between Italy and the United States.
In a call to an Italian TV programme, @realDonaldTrump has claimed that @GiorgiaMeloni "begged" him to take a picture with her during the recent G7 summit.
Meloni has just delivered one of the sharpest public rebukes in recent US-Italy relations:
"President Trump's words are pure fantasy [...].
We do not understand why the President of the United States behaves like this, especially towards allies. We would like to see him behave as firmly with the enemies of the West [...].
Myself and Italy do not beg anybody."
Whatever one's political preferences, the President of the United States has no business publicly mocking or insulting the democratically elected leader of a close European ally.
President Trump's childish and needlessly confrontational behaviour is unworthy of the office he holds and of the great nation he represents.
Sanctions disrupted parts of Russia’s state media ecosystem. The Kremlin responded by investing more heavily in alternative channels, including online personalities.
Propaganda may arrive as a travel vlog, making Kremlin talking points feel more relatable while being financed by Russian state-linked companies.
Alexandra Jost is one example.
Checking my $MU notes from summer 2024 reading "Memory for AI" with the thesis that mobile devices are going to need way more memory to run AI. Good to see Tim 🍎 finally on the same page.
$MU $DRAM $SNDK $KIOXIA "100-Year Flood."
$AAPL CEO Tim Cook told WSJ, “Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable."
Tim Cook called it a "hundred year flood." Unprecedented in his 40+ years.
Apple needs more DRAM for upcoming AI features including a rebooted Siri. Consumer AI is now about to kick in. Second vector.
Explosive AI demand from Google, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon has quadrupled memory and storage chip prices since last year. AI servers are prioritized, leaving less supply for consumer devices.
Prices expected to keep rising into 2027.
Alexandra Jost, the Russian propagandist know for disseminating Kremlin propaganda dressed up as lifestyle content on behalf of Russia Today, has just been placed under EU sanctions. Don’t expect ‘Sasha Meets Europe’ anytime soon.
🇯🇵😂 The most Japanese celebration ever
After Japan’s 2–2 draw against the Netherlands, fans rushed onto Tokyo’s famous Shibuya Crossing to celebrate.
For exactly 40 seconds.
Why? Because the pedestrian light was green.
As soon as it turned red, everyone stopped celebrating and obediently moved back to the sidewalks.
Even in the middle of a spontaneous football celebration, the Japanese still refused to break traffic rules.
@tonihytonen Some argue we're already there. How to tell? How to even define it. IDK🤷♂️
I'd guess even with AGI it'd take some time to get so much ahead as we're restricted by so many bottle necks.
So many thighs right now could turn the future in completely different directions
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

BREAKING: SpaceX stock, $SPCX, surges over +30% to a fresh record high and hits $2.3 trillion in market cap.
SpaceX is now the 6th largest public company in the world.
This is a super exciting release - Claude Fable 5 is the same underlying model as Mythos but with added safeguards. The benchmarks are great and it's SOTA on everything by a margin but I'll add that *qualitatively* also, this is a major-version-bump-deserving step change forward (imo of the same order as Claude 4.5 was in November), peaking especially for long problem-solving sessions on very difficult problems. You can give it a lot more ambitious tasks than what you're used to, the model "gets it" and it will just go, and it's never felt this tempting to stop looking at the code at all (but don't do this in prod!). The model still has quirks that people will run into and the safeguards are configured to be a little too trigger happy for launch, which can hopefully be tuned over time.
I feel a lot of things changing as working software increasingly comes out on a tap. The Jevon's paradox kicks in and I feel my own demand for software growing substantially. You can ask for anything - explainers, visualizers, dashboards, bespoke single-use apps (e.g. a full wandb that is hyper-specific just for your project), you can 10X your test suite, auto-optimize code, run giant research projects with custom HTML for the results, anything! "Free your mind" (Matrix ref). Really looking forward to all the things people build!
This man and the Ukrainian people will be admired and studied for generations.
Ukraine has forced Europe to wake up to the reality of the threat it faces. Zelenskyy has done more to unite Europe than most leaders could ever dream of.
They are fighting not only for their own freedom, but for values that all free societies should defend. Imagine if he’d decided to flee in 2022…
A legend.
And now the Kremlin says it is waging war against Ukraine to stop Ukrainian strikes on Moscow and St. Petersburg — strikes that simply did not exist until Russia invaded Ukraine.
The dumbest war in the dumbest timeline in human history.
Good that eyes are opening.
But as a Finn, I cannot comprehend how ignorant people have been of the Russian propaganda flooding our information space for so many years.
We literally have books written about this dating back to before 2014 and Putin’s annexation of Crimea.
There have been countless warnings from numerous intelligence agencies over the years.🤦🏼♂️
Yeah. This week it hit me hard just how much Russian propaganda we have been subjected to on the right for the last 5 years.
Especially as it pertains to the religious divide and the absolute gaslighting we get from right wing influencers who use religion as a shield to be terrible people.
Right wing podcasters will use their religion to shame others while they take money from communist and Islamic regimes that slaughter Christians and use anti-Semitism as a currency.
Now I see it’s being weaponized to usher in communism and Islamism and it’s really being directed by Iran, Russia, China and Qatar.
It freaks me out to see how many people I’ve known for years who are involved in this opp and how their minds have been warped.
It truly is propaganda and I should have detected this much sooner.
The left wasn’t entirely wrong when they called some people Russian puppets. Just like the right isn’t wrong when they call some people agents of the Chinese communists and Islamists.
Now I’m just wondering how long some of these people I’ve known for years have been activated as foreign agents and who their handlers are.
I’ve come to really dislike a lot of people I thought I liked years ago over what I’ve learned about them and their ties to certain foreign interests meant to destabilize the West while they pretended to be the biggest defenders of the West.
How do we always let Russia dictate the pace of escalation?
It’s long overdue for NATO to start setting its own red lines in advance:
If Russia/Putin does X, NATO will do Y.
Close Ukrainian skies. Provide Tomahawks etc. Make the consequences clear.
Poland, Baltic states, now Romania. More and more Russian provocations. Yesterday the former president @MedvedevRussiaE said that the peaceful sleep of the EU citizens is over. Everyone in NATO should finally start taking these facts and words seriously.
