🎶 Viet Cuong: Next Week's Trees

[Kronos Quartet @kronosquartet]

That's a wrap! Closing out a historic year by recording two albums in two weeks at 25th Street Recording in Oakland, including music by @NicoleLizee, @rimbanna, Jonathan Berger, @hildurness, Neil Young, and . . .

[Kronos Quartet @kronosquartet]

Special thanks to our producers Matt Carr (@mcarrsound) and Jeanne Velonis, and engineers Scott Fraser and Zach Miley for their brilliant contributions to these recordings, and to Karishma for assisting! Can't wait for everyone to hear the final mixes ♥️

[Kronos Quartet @kronosquartet]

We're currently in the studio recording them all--Kronos's first all-Lizée record coming soon!

[Kronos Quartet @kronosquartet]

Kronos has been in love with the music of Nicole Lizée since the first time we heard it years ago. Since then, Nicole has written a host of beautifully mind-bending and fantastical works for Kronos that have mesmerized audiences around the world.

As good as this is, nothing can replace being on stage with Zakir Hussain and getting lifted up by the incomparable ease of his rhythmic virtuosity and the delightful, light-filled flights of his melodic genius."

Founder of Kronos Quartet

Remembering Zakir Hussain

"In the hands of Zakir Hussain his tabla became the embodiment of playful exuberance and exhilarating joy. His death yesterday has left a huge sad hole in the world of music and for musicians and music lovers everywhere.

[Kronos Quartet @kronosquartet]

Another memorable and proud moment was when he composed and performed ‘Pallavi’ for KQ’s Fifty For The Future project. Now not only Kronos but also any group in the world can have the thrilling experience of performing with Zakir Hussain's amazing artistry.

. . . This achievement may be through outstanding leadership, advocacy, philanthropy, innovation, scholarship, or curatorship.”
