Baristas are locking arms in front of lines of trucks.
This distribution center is Starbucks’ largest on the East Coast, which is why we’re showing up to send a message. We're ready to continue escalating our ULP strike until Starbucks does the right thing.
#NoContractNoCoffee
Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%
Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%
Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.
As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
No one cares what YOU think about how valuable that labor is. The Market™️ doesn't care what you think. Customers decide how valuable it is when they pay $9 for an iced coffee en masse. Starbucks knows how valuable that labor is when their workers withhold it.
I always think it's funny when people are like, "I work X job, why should a barista make as much as me?" Because like, idk, that sounds like a question you should ask your boss? Or better yet, ask your coworkers and get organized and demand more? Idk what to tell you.
Also, just an aside, your subjective opinion about the value of the work that food service workers do doesn't mean shit. Starbucks baristas objectively produce billions in value for the second largest fast-food company in the world.
@hecubian_devil Lol Colin Cumlap is maybe the most universally hated and laughed at loser in PGH. Failed sports shock jock turned right wing grifter because it's the only thing that takes less talent. He'd only be a troll worth feeding if anyone listened to his constant, whiny, mewling drivel.
In January, SBWU allies took part in civil disobedience for the 1st time.
To reflect upon this tactic's legacy, and how it has helped workers & social movements win, we're hosting a teach-in on February 25th!

Starbucks labels their coffee product sources as "100% Ethical."
Today, a new report documents abusive labor & negative environmental practices within the supply chain Starbucks sources from in Mexico.

@christi__hannah If they start pissing on stuff, they're probably marking to tell you "I like thos here, stop moving things around." Try to keep thinga stable for them. Also, drugs, treats, and cat nip can help.
@christi__hannah Cats don't like furniture being moved around, so contain them to one room that doesn't change for as long as possible in both your old and new place while moving. In your new place, introduce them slowly to each room one at a time, and try to provide them with familiar smells.
