Hard to believe that it's the 10 Year Anniversary one of television's greatest single seasons ever: True Detective, Season 1. Not only has it been a decade since the show premiered, but we're on the eve of a new season featuring Jodie Foster- so there's never been a better time to revisit what is truly a miracle & the pinnacle of prestige TV. Told as a nonlinear narrative, the first season of True Detective tells the story of Louisiana homicide detectives played by Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson who are brought together to investigate a massive child abuse scandal. For my money, McConaughey's performance in this season is as good as any performance ever on TV- he's haunting & utterly gripping throughout both of the season's timelines. It's hard to think of two actors with better chemistry than McConaughey & Harrelson- their fit together could not be better and drives the success of the season. Following Season 1, True Detective hasn't necessarily found the same success with Season 2 or 3, but both are still quality seasons of television. Regardless of how Season 4 turns out this January, there's no touching the show's original season that debuted in 2014. With the Cinema drying up in January, True Detective Season 1 might be calling.
