The cicadas were screaching in the treetops. The sun burned the back of his neck. His skin itched with dried salt, sweat trickled down his spine, and there was still half the climb ahead.
Kei thought that happiness, as it turned out, was a rather inconvenient thing. It was noisy, sticky on the skin, took up most of the bed, bought ridiculous hats, and forgot to put sunscreen on its back.
Kei stopped and glanced back. Tetsurou flashed him a grin, caught up in two long strides, and hooked a finger into the back of Kei’s waistband.
Apparently, it had no intention of going anywhere.
