Javier Assad again showed Sunday why he needs be taken off the Iowa shuttle and put into the back end of the starting rotation. His career ERA of 3.54 is over 363 innings, dating back to September of 2022. Wake up, Jed. It’s not a small sample size.#mlb#cubs
Every year, I watch a replay of the 2004 Belmont Stakes. It kills me, but also inspires me. Smarty Jones didn't save horse racing, but he rejuvenated it at Oaklawn. He authored a scintillating story with a shattering finish. He gave so much that he never raced again. Tom Durkin's race call and NBC's coverage was as good as it gets.#Smartyjones #2004Belmont
Not to excuse anything about today’s effort, but can someone explain to me why the Cubs surrendered their homefield advantage today by playing a night game at home Thursday night while Giants played day game Thursday in Milwaukee and were at their hotel before the Cubs took the field, one team looked fresh, the other looked half asleep. It’s just Cubs being greedy to get bigger crowds. If you do that, then play Friday night.
That was one of the most pathetic performances I’ve seen, and that includes what happened in 1969 or in the recent 10-game losing streak. Cubs just punted. Harrrrrrrrrible. #nocubsno
@CubsWorld80 I’m absolutely sick of it. Assad is better, has been better and will always be better than Wicks. He’s probably better than Taillon as well. I have no idea what Jed and crew have against Assad, but it needs to stop. You don’t keep MLb pitchers in minors because they have options.
3-0 counts have become a problem. Most don’t swing, and umpires call anything close a strike. Players reluctant to challenge. Pitchers rarely give in on 3-1, and next thing you know it’s 3-2. Hitters must be more aggressive 3-0 to avoid automatic strike and be willing to challenge on 3-0 or 3-1. This is an issue.#mlb
PCA has been trending up since getting moved to leadoff. He’s more selective, and is hitting the ball hard. He put it all together on Saturday vs. Cardinals. Hopefully, he learned that the best way to shut people up is to kill them with results. #thiscubs
@Brett_A_Taylor We can complain about Counsell, Happ, Suzuki and Swanson, but this team, in its current state, is fortunate to be 5 games .500. The No. 1 problem has been the SP that seems programmed to give up at least 2-3 runs in the first 2 innings. You can’t play from behind every game.
@Michael_Cerami It’s worth a shot. As long as Pete can show the necessary patience. If he can bunt for a hit, walk or double, it might put opposing teams on their heels a bit. If you don’t want your cleanup guys Striking Out 35 percent, Nico is your man.
@Brett_A_Taylor@bleacherbumhome So we’re arguing the difference between perfect and great? Yes, there is a difference, but I would gladly rephrase my comment to great throw instead of perfect. My thought was, if it’s not on target, he’s safe.
