I have said it before, and I will say it again: the most compelling spokesperson for the economic agenda of the Tinubu administration is Taiwo Oyedele.

He possesses that rare combination of technical depth, exceptional communication skills, and political awareness. His mastery of the details and nuances of economic policy is remarkable. He can simplify complex reforms and explain them with such clarity that, in five minutes, he achieves what many general spokespersons struggle to accomplish in five hours.

That is the value of putting accomplished technocrats in positions where expertise matters most.

His effectiveness also illustrates why Nigeria should continue to attract more professionals of his calibre into government. The economy and national security are highly specialised fields that demand deep knowledge, analytical rigour, and practical experience. These portfolios are too important to be left solely to career politicians, no matter how skilled they may be in politics.

Previous finance minister had capable understanding of economic policy, but nothing that matches Taiwo Oyedele’s ability to combine technical competence with clear, persuasive public communication. He has raised the standard for how government reforms should be explained to Nigerians. This is not an argument about whether a policy is good or bad. It is about the ability to present a clear picture of what was intended, what happened and where we are going. Clarity helps build understanding; and understanding is a necessary foundation of public support and trust in government policies.

If we want better policies and greater public confidence in them, we need more technocrats with political intelligence in our economic and security institutions. They are indispensable to effective governance. So kudos to Mr President for bringing onboard Mr Oyedele.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was stoned in Aba in 1959 by those who despised his ideology and feared the towering shadow of his political stature. How many of those hostile voices did Awo pursue into their living rooms, begging for their endorsement?

Pa Ayo Adebanjo wined and dined and shared seasons with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu before becoming one of his fiercest critics. Beyond the courtesies demanded by public occasions, when did Asiwaju ever run after Pa Adebanjo, cap in hand, pleading for his support?

The iroko does not negotiate with every gust of wind. The lion does not suspend its hunt because the bush is noisy. An elephant does not abandon its path because goats are bleating by the roadside. In Africa, we say the moon does not descend to answer every dog that barks at it.

If criticism from an Isaac Fayose - a man whose political weight scarcely rises above celebrity banter - who is at PSquare's level, unsettles Peter so profoundly that he could not wait for daylight before presenting himself before his critic, seeking reconciliation and negotiating Isaac's return to the coven. Then it confirms what we have always known - Peter has a small mind.

A man who trembles before every dissenting voice will eventually become a prisoner of public applause. He who cannot accommodate criticism cannot command conviction.

PRESIDENT TINUBU IS INTENTIONALLY REBUILDING THE SOUTH EAST

I can’t contain my joy and that of my people regarding the great news from DIKESIMBA Anambra; DIKESIMBA NDIGBO, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR!

Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the Southeast. He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the Southeast, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War. There are several unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths going on in the Southeast at the moment. We will celebrate the full list later….

But the news from him today is history in itself. I met the President on Wednesday, July 1. The next day, the Hon. Minister for Works and Infrastructure (our own ever-productive and beloved Sen. Dave Umahi) contacted me to send him the details of the roads we had repeatedly discussed. On Friday, July 3rd, I sent him the following two roads:

1. Otuocha–Anam–Abaji (Kogi), about 108km to be dualized; and
2. Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction), connecting Anambra/Imo to the Enugu–PH Road, which also passes through Abia, about 150km to be dualized.

Today, 15th July, I received a message from the Min. of Works that the President has graciously approved both roads for “design and procurement”! What can I say? These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the Southeast, South-South and North Central. The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the Southeast won’t be the same again! For me personally, this is why politics makes sense to me: working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people.
