Santa Rosa Fire has 7 of our own remote automated weather stations (RAWS) around the city to monitor conditions from fire weather to winter storms. Within the last hour, RAWS are measuring gusts of 26mph in Fountaingrove and 21mph at our Fire Station 1 (Downtown/Sonoma Ave)
During Sunday's storm our Emergency Command Center (ECC) dispatched 391 incidents. Among that call load was 203 reports of powerlines down and 143 for trees that had fallen down.
For comparison to a normal call volume, in 2023 our ECC averaged 68 incident dispatches per day.
Yes the ground is moving. This is a prime example of why we residents to survey areas around homes during breaks in rain/wind, or in between storms to look for signs of weakened trees that could fall as a result of a strong gust of wind.
