To say I’m proud of the team we have @FamiliesOutside is an understatement, they amaze me every single day with the work they do. It’s vital that we recognise that in a number of ways, and regularly stop to acknowledge them as individuals and their feelings. Thank you, team!
Great start to the development day, talking about navigating change, what do we need to support change and move forward positively. Alongside this there was a story about elephants, penguins, and Queen Latifa - who knew! @FamiliesOutside
Looking fwd to welcoming the family support team @FamiliesOutside to the development day. There’s nothing quite like connecting with your peers, and building stronger bonds. Gorgeous views on the way.
Some of the things I heard today at the @SacroScotland staff conference. “Doing nothing isn’t an option” “no criminal justice without social justice” “getting it right for families, gets it right for children” “relational wealth is the antidote to adversity”
If I ever needed a reason to be reminded of why I do the job I do, I found it today at the @SacroScotland staff conference. Thanks for inviting us (@FamiliesOutside) along. It’s great to work with an organisation with shared values.
On 2nd November we are holding an event for families who have lost a loved one in prison. This is an opportunity to come together and remember those who are no longer with us, through mutual support and without judgement. To learn more, visit our website https://t.co/hK8JFsULAV
@acrosstheond@BBCScotland@AConstance23@ScotParl@scotgov@scottishprisons We support @scotgov following the evidence around what works and we look forward to hearing what further measures will be introduced to reduce the prison population. Action is needed and we know that appropriate community based measures can be more effective than time served.
@acrosstheond@BBCScotland@AConstance23@ScotParl During the emergency release & pre-release planning we have seen a lack of family involvement – this can put unnecessary pressure on families. We urge @scotgov & @scottishprisons to consider the impacts on families when they are putting measures in place.
🧵Tonight our CEO @acrosstheond speaks to @BBCScotland about the statement @AConstance23 provided at @ScotParl this afternoon on early release for people in prison. Overcrowding serves no one and it has implications that stretch beyond prison walls, impacting families left behind
Day 1 of #ChallengePoverty Week is about housing.
When a loved one goes to prison, families lose income, face eviction, or struggle with rent arrears, trapping them in poverty. These families must no longer be hidden — the impact goes far beyond prison walls. #CPW24
#ChallengePoverty Week Day 2 is about transport.
For families with a loved one in prison, the cost & availability of transport can deepen poverty. Visiting prison often means long, expensive journeys, leaving many unable to stay connected. Affordable transport is crucial. #CPW24
We sent a joint letter to @AConstance23@S_A_Somerville and @FionaHyslop calling for urgent cross-portfolio recognition and response to the challenges facing families when travelling to visit loved ones in Scottish prisons. Read our letter here https://t.co/6VEb9vJFwf

We @FamiliesOutside are delighted to work with interested local authorities to raise awareness of this and how we can embed it into practice. Please do get in touch if you would like more information. Contact [email protected]
Children with a parent in prison deserve the right support at the right time & most importantly have their views heard, the ‘this is me’ toolkit is the perfect way for this to happen, and anyone can support the use of it.
New blog🖋️Sarah Beresford @PRTuk outlines how @PerthandKinross@FamiliesOutside are ensuring that children with a parent in the justice system get the support they need: "Action is exactly what young people want... They need something to change.” ⬇️ https://t.co/EEKT6QG48o
