With this closure, Deer Lodge County is now the EIGHTH county in Montana that as NO independent news source.

This is a dire issue that the people of Montana need to recognize.

imo an underdiscussed aspect of walz's appeal is that the high school social studies/government teacher who coaches football and serves in the army national guard is an iconic american figure. he's the platonic ideal of a Type of Guy we all personally know.

And that's not even touching the fact that just before the heating season started the state switched LIHEAP over to the database used by Medicaid and SNAP, which causes its own issues when those programs are overloaded.

Outside of Medicaid and SNAP, I can attest other services are also being affected by unwinding in MT. For instance, qualifying for SNAP makes you categorically eligible for LIHEAP (utility assistance), so applying for LIHEAP is much more complicated if your SNAP app is in limbo.
