I do not endorse anything redeemed zoomer stands for but this is just correct. Compared to Mormonism, the theological differences between a pro-LGBT Episcopalian and an anti-gay Baptist are minimal.
“There are just two possibilities: faith in the word of God or ‘turning away’ from it to whatever else. Eve and Adam, that is, humanity, did the second when they disobeyed God’s explicit command, positing a less arbitrary God than the real one.” Jenson, Systematics volume 2
Now that the Department of Defense brouhaha is over, it's time to deal with the real Mormon debate: is God the God of all creation or is each planet colonized by its own little patriarchal demiurge?
Leviticus can’t call same sex marriage an abomination because for the human author of Leviticus “marriage” signifies something totally different than what any religious or secular person means by it today. The op is engaging in anachronism.
“A right doctrine of individual predestination is precisely a doctrine about what happens to and for individuals when they encounter Christ in his gospel: that the judgment they then hear is nothing less than God’s eternal act of decision.” Robert Jenson, Systematic Theology, 2
The only way I’ve been able to make sense of a post-metaphysical theology so far is that people who talk this way are using “metaphysics” and “substance metaphysics” as synonyms.
@agostino_harry I’m just confused when my friends talk about postmetaphysical theology and then make claims that sound metaphysical to me like “the Being of God is event.” Like, am I just confused about what metaphysics is? I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re just using it to mean
@crawlings13@agostino_harry Gentiles are a wild branch grafted into the tree of Israel by Grace Romans 11:17. You talking about Jewish identity as if it’s something alien to the church is very interesting in light of that.
Lotta Butlerian Jihad/Orange Catholic Bible jokes about the new encyclical, which made me realize that Pope Leo is a 70 year old math major from Chicago, so it feels virtually guaranteed he has in fact read Dune, and probably up through God Emperor of Dune.
“Life is something that visits my body, a transcendent loan; I have neither initiated nor conceived its worth and meaning. The essence of what I am is not mine. I am what is not mine. I am that I am not.” Abraham Joshua Heschel
