This new post from the FLOAT MV director tells us so much more about the concept of the MV!
"๐ฟ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ก ๐กโ๐ โ๐๐โ๐๐ ๐ก, ๐๐๐๐ฆ ๐ก๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ค๐ ๐กโ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ก"
In Greek mythology, ๐ฃ๐๐ด๐บ๐ฎ๐น๐ถ๐ผ๐ป was a sculptor who fell in love with a statue he carved. That statue was perfect and flawless compared to real humans. He treated it as a real person and companion giving it gifts, dressing it, treating it as a lover and eventually trying to kiss it.
Goddess Aphrodite having heard his prayers brought that statue to life. He named her Galatea.
And this is where it gets even deeper!
๐๐ด๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฒ comes from the Greek ฮฑฮณฮฌฯฮท (love). It is a selfless and unconditional form of love. Agape is a more self-sacrificial kind of love that isn't dependent on receiving something in return. It doesn't require possession, it's about giving to the other person and caring for them. It is deliberate and expressed through actions.
So if Pygmalion represents love born from an ideal, Agape represents the opposite which is loving beyond the ideal.
The Pygmalion myth isn't just about falling in love with a beautiful creation. It's also about the relationship between the artist and their work and how this love can blur the boundaries between art and life.
Once the ideal you fell in love with becomes real, it becomes something more. It becomes a person of its own, with their own flaws and imperfections.
FLOAT talks about feeling weightless in love. "Every conversation seems to flow", "this is the greatest story ever told". But the MV keeps showing us that behind this pure, perfect (white) image there can be something unsettling (black). The thing that makes you float the highest can also pull you down the deepest.
And this is the ๐ผ๐ ๐๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป Soft Violence is about.
