I see people crashing out over Hobi and Joon going to the Chris Brown / Usher concert.
BTS are probably more aware than most artists about the optics of every choice they make and how it will be dissected, politicized, moralized, and turned into a statement, whether they intended it to be one or not.
I want to go on record to thank a lot of you for now being a part of the dissection of who they are at every turn they make; they must be so exhausted. And that is exactly why their fans have to be careful not to constantly demand that they align with our beliefs, morals, politics, movements, and personal boundaries. At some point, that stops being support and starts becoming an attempt to control how seven GROWN men are allowed to live their lives.
👉🏽 We can be mad about their choices. We can say we are disappointed. We can decide we would never make the same choice ourselves. We can even unstan them. That’s all fair.👈🏽
🚫 What we do not get to do is take someone else’s wrongdoing and attach it to BTS because they were in the audience. Chris Brown is responsible for what Chris Brown did. Usher is responsible for what Usher has said and done. BTS are responsible for going to a concert. Those are not equivalent acts.
You cannot place BTS in the same moral category as abusers, abuse apologists, or people who committed the actual harm simply because they attended a show. They did not commit the assault. They did not defend it. They did not suddenly become anti-woman because they bought a ticket and listened to music. And it is absurd for most of you to take that stance simply because you’re upset they were at that concert.
Be disappointed if that is where you land. But take them off the pedestal while you are doing it, because if your version of loving BTS requires them to pass every moral, political, and social test you personally create, they are going to fail more than they win. Free them from your moral constraints. They are already restricted enough. They don’t need your help.
They are human beings living a life, not seven avatars programmed to represent every belief held by millions of fans. Sometimes they will make choices you do not like. That does not automatically make those choices evidence of who they are as people.
Sometimes, bro, they just went to a concert. Sometimes they just chose the music. A lot of you should start morally policing the people in your immediate circle the way y’all do celebrities. Because what you will find is that you don't hold the people closest to you to the same standard y’all hold BTS to, and that’s weird, do you think?
ARMY, I love y’all; I’m a fan of us 💜. But sometimes some of y’all be trippin, hard.
@btsdaily77 ARMYs in the comments are so crazy for trying to defend them instead of simply admitting that supporting Chris Brown was a bad thing to do… but you’re willing to do anything to defend men you don’t even know.
