“I think we as scientists embody something fundamentally, beautifully human … I still, idealistically and perhaps naively, believe in beauty because we, or some of us at least, experience it and are moved by it.” — Sliman Bensmaia, PhD, 1973-2023 https://t.co/aykDoe98Q6
Word has quickly gotten around about the untimely death of @slimanjbensmaia. I wanted to pass on a couple more bits of information, including a gofundme for Kerry and kids (https://t.co/VEcjF4KIJn) and a photo album (https://t.co/koRZ2TfreO). Add your favorites!
The tremendous outpouring of love for @slimanjbensmaia has been so touching. It will take a long time to process his passing.
If you are looking for a way to support Sliman’s family, a GoFundMe has been created: https://t.co/PUA3NixOCs

Sliman was passionate, optimistic, and fearless. Better than most, he knew the line between hard and impossible and he was unwilling to let you settle for less. His stubborn belief in people and what they were capable of built a generation of tough, brilliant trainees.
Absolutely shattered by the loss of one of the strongest forces in my life, @slimanjbensmaia. He was impatient about all the right things, relentless in his pursuit of, not only knowledge, but people. I will forever miss his laugh, banter, music, and mentorship.
Mastectomy often leads to a complete desensitization of the chest. @stacylindau and I are seeking a postdoc-level neural engineer to develop #BIONIC approaches to restore breast sensation. Come to Chicago and help us improve the lives of millions of women around the world!
Looking for a programmer with expertise in C++ and Matlab or Python to control robots and interface them directly with the nervous system. Join an existing team of fantastic programmers and engineers to push the boundaries of BCIs. If interested, DM me. #BCI@Corbionics
Such fun this morning @BrainsRuleUMich w/ @NIDAnews T32 Trainees, teaching middle schoolers about the effects of drugs of abuse on the brain. So happy that our "Dopamine-Cocaine Foosball Table" still works after all these years @kthlong! (Thanks for tech support @jaime_jenn 😉)
The 5th episode for the Symmetry, Invariance and Neural Representations Workshop at #BernsteinConference (co-organized w/ @ari_dibe) showcases @jdlieber 's work on high-dimensional and invariant representations of texture in primate somatosensory cortex ✋ 🐵

Hear ye, hear ye! ICMS of human somatosensory cortex (S1) activates motor cortex (M1), this activity is task-dependent and somatotopically patterned, and disrupts motor decoding. Collaboration between @UChicago@UPMC@NorthwesternU

The Supreme Court decisions overturning Roe v. Wade and a New York gun law were both justified by originalism—which relies on a historical record that excludes all constitutional and legal thought authored by women and people of color. https://t.co/rUI72FbFZg
Congratulations to Dr. @stacylindau, the recipient of the 2022 @ACTScience Award for Addressing Health Equity Through Partnership and Innovation! Dr. Lindau was nominated by @UChicagoMed's Dr. Doriane Miller for her community-based work with @MAPSCorps.
NHP research is under constant threat from those who do not understand its critical role in basic and translational science. @CoryMillerMarmo, @MIcheleABasso1, Sabine Kastner, and I have been raising awareness about the contributions of NHP research to science and health. 1/3
