I haven’t slept a wink. I’m not sure I ever will again. I’ve never felt such a powerful punch of love hit me like that before, and I’m not even sure what to do with it all.

Thank you isn’t enough, but let’s start there. Thank you for carrying us all this way. Thank you for making us feel special. Thank you for making all of this feel proper.

Thank you to the grown ups who trusted us with such a mammoth thing. Absolutely stupid that you let us do that, but I hope we made you proud.

The feeling I get from looking across and seeing my best mates on the planet literally living their dream, in full HD makes me so happy I could burst into bubbles.

And thank you to Leigh. Our home. Our people. Nobody does it better.

Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley was released in 1961 and first appeared in the film Blue Hawaii. It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore and George David Weiss, and went on to become one of the most recognisable love songs of all time.

The melody is based on the 18th-century French song Plaisir d’amour, composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. This connection gives the song a sense of familiarity and timelessness, with a melodic structure that had already endured for nearly two centuries before Elvis recorded it.

“Can’t Help Falling in Love” became a staple of Elvis’s live performances, particularly in the later years of his career, where it was often used as the closing song of his concerts. Its slow tempo and emotional delivery made it a natural farewell moment, helping to cement its association with both endings and lasting affection.

The song has shown remarkable longevity in popular culture. It has been covered by a wide range of artists across different genres, most notably by UB40, whose 1993 version reached number one in several countries and introduced the song to a new generation.

‘Stayin’ Alive’ was released in 1977 by the Bee Gees as part of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, and quickly became one of the defining songs of the disco era.

Despite its reputation as a dancefloor anthem, the song’s lyrics are rooted in survival, resilience, and navigating life in a harsh city environment. The contrast between the upbeat rhythm and the subject matter is part of what gives the song its lasting impact.

The track’s rhythm is one of the most recognisable in music history. At around 100BPM, it has since been used in CPR training, as the tempo closely matches the recommended pace for chest compressions. A song about staying alive that has quite literally helped save lives.

During recording, the band faced an unusual problem. Their drummer was unavailable, so they looped a section of drums from another recording to build the track. The result was so effective that they jokingly credited a fictional drummer, ‘Bernard Lupe’.

Vocally, the song helped define the Bee Gees’ signature falsetto sound, particularly Barry Gibb’s lead vocal, which went on to influence the direction of pop and dance music for years to come.

The song also became inseparable from its opening scene in Saturday Night Fever, where it underscored one of the most iconic walking sequences ever put to film. That moment helped cement both the track and the wider disco movement in global culture.

Decades later, ‘Stayin’ Alive’ remains one of the most streamed and recognised songs from the 1970s, continuing to influence music, film, and popular culture.

Old Music Friday: Madonna Material Girl…

The song came out in 1984 on the ‘Like a Virgin’ album, but Madonna didn’t actually write it. It was written by Peter Brown and Robert Rans. Still, she made it hers in a way that only she can. That voice, that attitude, that knowing look like she’s in on a joke you’re still catching up to.

The music video is one of the most iconic ever. It’s basically a recreation of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, with Madonna channeling Marilyn Monroe performing ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’. The pink dress, the diamonds, the whole thing… instantly legendary.

But here’s the twist. In the video, while she’s playing this over-the-top “material girl” on set, in real life she falls for the guy who doesn’t shower her with gifts. So even the video is kind of saying… maybe it’s not about the money at all.

Madonna herself has said she later regretted the song a bit, because people took it too literally and it followed her around forever. Which is funny, because she’s one of the smartest artists to ever play the pop game. Nothing about what she does is accidental.

Also, small world moment… the guy who first signed Madonna, Seymour Stein, also ended up discovering us. Which is either a sign we’re destined for greatness… or that he’s got very broad taste.

At the time, Madonna was broke, hustling in New York, trying to make anything stick. Within a couple of years, she became the biggest pop star on the planet. Not because she had the best voice in the room, but because she knew exactly who she was, or at least who she wanted you to think she was.

Hi! Happy Neurodiversity Celebration Week.

When I was diagnosed with ADHD, it didn’t come as just one feeling. It was a mix. Relief, mostly. Like finally being handed the right map after years of thinking I was just bad at reading directions.

But alongside that relief, there was something else. A kind of grief and mourning.

Looking back at being a kid, at school, at moments where I was told I was lazy, difficult, too much, not enough… I can’t help but wonder what it might’ve felt like to be understood instead of corrected. To be encouraged instead of managed. Included and not excluded. To be seen properly.

For a long time, I thought those parts of me were flaws. Things to hide, fix, or apologise for.

Now I see them differently.

Not as something broken, just something different.

And different doesn’t need fixing, it needs understanding.

If anything, I hope things are changing. That more people are growing up being recognised for how their minds actually work, not how they’re expected to.

This week isn’t just about awareness, it’s about celebration.

Different minds. Different ways of seeing the world. Different ways of being.

And all of them valid.
