@EODHappyCaptain Definitely harder. This year, for some unknown reason I’ve realized ways it continues to impact our lives that I hadn’t considered before. There’s a feeling of trying to reach some sort of closure or understanding why and after 25 years, it still eludes us.
My grief over 9/11 is so multi-layered. The many, many lives lost that day and for years after, the loss of a naivety I didn’t even know I had, a shift in our national identity, reduced freedoms my children will never know, and the last really long conversation I had with my dad.
The fact that 9/11 happened 25 years ago is hard to comprehend. It feels like yesterday and also ages ago. It fundamentally changed how Americans understand and move through the world, and sharing our stories today feels important. Mine is similar to others I’m seeing…
My dad, a Vietnam vet, always said the way we lived in America wasn’t reality. For the first time, I understood what he meant. He had cancer likely caused by toxin exposure during that war. He passed away two months after 9/11 worried about the world he couldn’t protect us from…
Happy Birthday Mother Mary! My husband and I consecrated ourselves to Mary today after preparing with the “33 Days to Morning Glory” retreat. What a blessed day! She has interceded for me to her son Jesus in more ways than I can count throughout my life. Hail Mary full of grace!
@nathanperrodin My story also. Moved to Texas more than 30 years ago to make a living and raise my family with better opportunities. But not a day goes by that I don’t deeply miss the people, the culture, the community, the tall oaks and the lush landscape of Lafayette.
@7Qwerk I’ve been in your situation feeling the same sense of regret for past decisions and the difficulty of going through a years-long process to marry my husband in the Church. It truly is so worth it. The graces you will receive along the way are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
@SonofManwithus I felt the same for many years. I tried so many churches and stopped going since nothing felt right. I deeply missed worshipping w others. After lots of prayer, God led me back to the Catholic Church. It is rooted in the Eucharist and the Gospel. The Mass is the same worldwide.
@hillhound1@camhigby Please don’t give up. God may be calling you to a deeper relationship by not giving you an inspiring religious experience now. Finding Him despite suffering through lackluster church services is challenging but worth it. Pray to Him for the spark you hoped to find today.
@southevropa My vote is yes, go for it! I started veiling last year and love how reverent it feels. I’m sometimes the only one but at other masses I’ll see a few other women with veils.
@hillbillythings Yes and it was the best thing ever! It involved a little paperwork. We had to send in copies of birth certificates, baptism certificates and dates of first communion and confirmation. Gathering those documents was the hardest part. We had a small beautiful ceremony.

@npbeharry2019 Welcome to Catholicism! My advice would be to go to mass and receive the Eucharist as often as possible. Oh, and enjoy asking different saints for help based on the areas they patron. I love that we have so many resources ready to help us! Ours is a beautiful faith.
