Social media will continue to expand as the IoT makes more devices smarter and more organizations embrace these platforms as a way to connect with their customers (Krakul, 2020). VR will grow as a technology and play an important part of social interaction. #INFO246w82
@PaulWeymouth2 That's a great point! I love to see patrons sharing our content and also love when they reply directly to a post with an @ to someone else that might be interested. That is often the way we get the most attendance to our programs. Word of Mouth!
SM sentiment analysis is a very valuable metric (Matejic, 2016). The article subheading, "It's not about you. It never was. It's about your audience and how you make them feel" resonates with me. How well we meet patron needs, not how great our SM looks is key. #INFO246w719
@PaulWeymouth2 We just created a new part-time social media marketing position that spends 16 hours/week on social media posting and photography. Prior to that we had 1 full time person that spent about 4-6 hours per week. Hope that helps?!
@PaulWeymouth2 Yes and most of our patrons get mad that we DON'T track reading history unless you opt-in. The difference between young and old patrons maybe?
I have often thought about the encryption and security protocols put in place by our many ILS vendors and was happy to see it brought up in this week's readings (Breeding, 2016). It is imperative that libraries understand and can control the procedures put in place #INFO246w75
@PaulWeymouth2@robyndero21 I have to say I have been guilty of this on numerous occasions @PaulWeymouth2 After this week's readings, though, I think it might be safer for my organization if I collect the forgotten memory sticks in our lost and found and leave it up to patrons to reclaim.
@CReyesReads@sacllace I like the idea of a continuing conversation by soliciting favorite song titles and then compiling them and engaging with users again by posting a crowd-sourced song list.
@ChrisB84767473 I love the idea of having a library collection of escape rooms on their website! I'm going to have to check this out. What a great idea for virtual programming!
@GingerBiblioph1 yes, I think including other community organizations and interacting with patrons on an individual level is a great way to engage and grow participation. Our library is just beginning to explore this!
One of the readings this week (Enis, 2017) pointed out something interesting. Libraries today need to seek out 2 way interaction with users, not just post what they want to tell us about their services but to have back and forth conversations with their community. #INFO246w621
@Sonam_lib Academic libraries definitely have unique challenges when trying to engage a specific audience. I'd also be interested to know how others are addressing this problem and engaging their users.
@on_the_shelf21 Yes! I love the "made up of humans" part ๐ I often need reminders that there are many human wizards behind the curtains of our information organizations.
@ChelsCuriosity That is a great point! I notice a lot more libraries are answering reference questions using online methods like chat and email which is a great way to expand their customer service and online footprint.
@onlinemiddleton Good point about changing user expectations! I notice our library gets many more likes and comments when we are asking questions or soliciting feedback rather than just posting about our upcoming programs. Staff profiles are a hit too!
@SFPublicLibrary does a great job of including Twitter posts in both English and Spanish, promoting wider access to their content and using social media to encourage equity, equality and inclusion for all patrons. #INFO246w621
