This morning I asked the Taxi Rank Guy for his views about this issue of Taxi Associations patrol units 'terrorizing' motorists and preventing them from giving lifts to hikers. This is what he had to say:
" Ask yourself the following
1. Why it is not characterized as terror when white owned outfits FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank, ABSA, Capitec, and African Bank have monopoly position in the banking industry?
2. Go and find out who are the sole Coal Exporting Parties at Richards Bay Coal Terminal and why that kind of structure is not characterised as terrorism.
3. Go and find out why white owned Shoprite Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths , and Spar are the common anchor tenants in shopping centers and this is never characterised as terrorism.
4. Ask yourself why the foreign Uber and Bolt e hailing business is not characterized as terrorism.
These are just a few examples. Now if you do your research properly you will find out that the government continues to create fertile conditions for examples of monopoly entities I have cited to thrive through favorable legislation and in some cases funding, bailouts, and guarantees. Even the taxi industry is being subjected to the monopoly of SA Taxi. The guys at the bottom of the chain are just trying to survive. SA Taxi is a private entity and as recent as September 2024 , Transaction Capital sold its majority shares to the Family Trust of former Rand Merchant Bank CIO. SANTACO's position is ceremonial, it is capture, and the incentives never filter down to the Taxi Associations that deal with real people every day. Go and ask any taxi driver how much they take home per day, you too will weep for them. Go and ask the taxi owners how much they have pay for being plugged into the pyramid scheme called SA Taxi. It is simply not sustainable.
What I am highlighting to you is real terrorism but it never gets characterised as such because it benefits and protects the status of Europeans in this country. Therefore, it is important that when analyzing the issue of motorists vs taxi association patrol units , one must have a holistic approach. Once we define the root cause then we can all looo at ways of fixing the problem at source level. If we don't do that, we will continue to eat each other at the bottom. Taxi Associations must also mobilize enough intellectual capital to develop a proper level of consciousness- a level that brings them into awareness that they are not vicitims of motorists but rather of a government and a system that protects white supremacy at all costs by all means..."
