@KerriMPR One more character I would like to be is Raimund Gregorius in Pascal Mercer’s “Night Train to. Lisbon.” Played by Jeremy Irons in the film version, he is a dry Swiss classics professor who goes on an existential adventure to Lisbon which changes him and his life.
@KerriMPR A character in literature I’d like to be is Gurov in Chekhov’s “Lady with the Lap Dog.” He shows courage in breaking the social norms of 19th century Russian society to be with his lover Anna.
@elainehsiehchou I read Disorientation in just a few days and loved it. It blew my mind, I didn't know these things were going on. I am sorry you went through many things, but at the same time they gave you your courage and literary voice, in a sense. BTW, I live in Taipei.
@BBCKasiaMadera@RoyalAlbertHall Hi Kasia, I was happy to see you report the news this morning in Taiwan. You spoke with a colleague at National Taiwan University who contributed to Taiwan's handling of Covid-19. The key is that in Taiwan the politicians let the public health experts set the Covid-19 policy.
Re Medicare for expats, can't they get a discount since they have ltd access to US health providers? For ex, I ret to the States for rarely over a few weeks per year, yet my SS check doesn't cover my Medicare B and I have to pay the difference. Thanks for your insights.
@GordonMarino Love it up in Hawaii. I spent 7 unforgettable years there. We had an elder on faculty back in the’70s who’d written a dissertation on SK’s Concept of Irony. Prof. Winfield Nagley. A great guy.
China has regularly protected the Burmese military from international condemnation. The US and other members of the #UNSC should reject any Chinese effort to block much-needed discussions on the plight of #Rohingya and other ethnic minorities in Burma. https://t.co/CJABR53N52
