@notbenhaddinger The bombing was not a result of Montags action, it was because of the Nuclear War that had just been declared before he left. Catching Montag was to keep the public inline. A reminder of what happens if they do not obey, and a way of entertainment. #APLAC3
Interesting that the people and countries in this book are willing and have used atomic weapons of war. In real life, we have MAD protecting us from such wars, and surely they would have something similar. Why has it not occurred? #APLAC3
What point was there in having as many many soldiers as they had talked about earlier anyway, given that it was a nuclear war? Both sides clearly have capability and the will to use them, so why bother? #APLAC3
@annaleighhh1234 To add to this, they also suggest that they don’t think that war is dangerous, and even if it is not, that they’ll find a new husband just as easily as they found their first. They have no connection to their children, referring to them as things as mundane as laundry. #APLAC3
Is our current society moving towards the monotony and lack of fine arts we see in this book? Nowadays, artists, musicians, and other patrons of the arts tend to struggle financially and fail to keep up with society’s expectations. Everyone is to be productive in society. #APLAC3
Why is Beatty so well versed and seems to enjoy himself with literature? He seems exactly like the scholar that he preaches that destroy this society, and yet fights against these scholars? #APLAC3
@Kolten95155075 Another part parallel to “1984” is how people seem to be desensitized to war, with the bombers constantly flying over comparable to how in “1984” a missle crashing into the residential district is seen as normal. #APLAC3
In Fahrenheit 451, firefighters have become people who destroy books because they are a “plague on society” and while we do not do that yet, with countries like China going as far as banning the book “1984” by Orwell, are we approaching this? #APLAC3
With the amount of money the wife was willing to spend on these screens to project the family, you have to wonder how much societies values have changed in such a world, needing to fill silence with empty sound. #APLAC3
